Default Homelink Mirror Accessory question

Does anyone know if the homelink rear-view mirror will work in the 2005 mustang? I requested this at my dealership but they said that it was not equipped to handle this. This just doen't seem to make sense to me as the feature should be totally built into the mirror itself.

Do a search for Homelink in this forum. some guys have talked about this and how hey got the same mirror from Subaru for quite a bit cheaper than Ford.

Homelink mirror works just fine. You can use a Ford Homelink mirror, a Subaru mirror (just do NOT get the WRX mirror), a Mazda mirror, and there are others too. The challenge with the non-Ford branded mirrors is simply having to create your own wiring harness.

The mirror fits in place of the stock mirror, the wires run under the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse box. Tie in the wires to the appropriate locations and you're done...

Installed a Mazda Mirror with Homelink, compass and temp reading and it turned out great. Part # 00008CG14A from WorldPartsExpress at a cost of $234.00 plus 19.84 shipping. Shipping a little high, but I didn't find a better price. Posted this on another site. Directions should work with different mirror purchased wherever.

Well it worked out just great. Teased the factory mirror off with a small screwdriver (pried out in
hole at bottom and gently forced mirror up) Prying at top would likely work better, but mirror has
to go up. Slipped new mirror on and tightened with # 20 torx. Took pass. visor off, pulled down
interior light cover (probably no need to do that). Lifted pass door sill up and removed panel off
the fuse box area and the fuse box cover and then pulled off the A pillar right on ft windshield.
Next I removed the back panel of the right ft wheel well and exposed the outside of firewall. Below
the antenna rubber grommet is a protruding rubber nipple which I cut off and ran the temp sensor wire
to inside of the veh. as per directions. Sealed this with boat goop.
I hooked the two wires to the mirror wiring plug as per directions. The sensor on the other end I ran
over the front of the wheel well panel to the headlight area and mounted the sensor at the centre
top of the bumper opening with the sensor hidden inside the vertical centre support at the top.
(protected from the elements). I cemented the wire on the inside of the horizontal back cavity with
clear boat goop, it won't be going anywhere. For the final wiring, I removed the neg. wire off the
battery as recommended and used two add a circuit minifuses, black and white to the wiper fuse and
the black (Homelink) to the power mirror
fuse. The ground wire, centre black, went to an existing ground bolt. Hooked it all up including
battery neg and it worked like a charm. Put everything back together. Oops, forgot I had to cut a
strip off the bottom of the fuse cover to accomodate the add a circuits and the two wires.
Programmed, homelink and compass - works great.

I had the GENK50 homelink-temp-compass mirror put in by Boomers. It took the guy 15 minutes. The hardest part is removing the old mirror. You have to be careful not to crack the windshield as the dealers may do. There was a thread somewhere that I printed out to give the guy on removing the old mirror. The guy said it did help and was simple w/ the printout. I also had him hardwire my radar at the same time.

The compass programming instructions are included or just make three slow circles at 5mph and it should program automatically.
The LCD temp and complass readings are quite clear and my homelink button opens the garage door (13 yrs old) instantaneously and at a good range.

Nice! Thanks!

After the next $10,000 is spent on tranny, brakes, shocks/struts, diff and axles, I'll look at the inside....
