I waxed and clayed my car and was extremely happy the way it turned out untill i noticed that i accidentally got wax on the plastic trim on the bottom side of the driver window n side skirt. how can i get this stuff off?
one more question, did anybody have a problem with the claybar "sticking" to the car n leaving a white mark that was a ***** to get off? i was using meguiars n plenty of detail spray

I get wax off plastic trim by dipping a Q-tip in a little bit of WD-40 -- takes it right off. I would also recommend following this up by coating the trim with an application of Mother's "Back-to-Black" -- keeps your trim looking like new!

Being that I manage a detail center I can throw in my two cents... You can either use an all purpose cleaner and a vinyl bristled brush to remove the residue from porous black plastics, or better yet find a wax that will not leave plastics white, but rather shine them. There is a great retail wax for this on the market that of course is a consumer wax and it is called Ultra Gloss, Turtle Wax's newest and finest wax they have made in many years.
(For a retail wax, it is awesome IMO.
I have read in another thread a month ago that you can use peanut butter and a tooth brush to get the wax off of your trim. Sounds crazy to me and I have not had the chance to try it but it is definately not going to hurt it in any way.
As crazy as it sounds ..... A pink eraser will take that wax residue right off platic trim.
A buddy of mine recently told me about this one. Havent had the opportunity to try it yet, but as I am forever getting a little wax on my vinyl top on my current ride, it should come in handy when I get the urge to clean it again. I used some back to black type stuff on the top after I waxed the car on Friday... man, sure spruced it right up! I've gotten more compliments on my 88 caddy in the last 2 days than I have in a year!

Go to the $ store and get a few pink erasers. Keep one int he glove box. No spraying, rags, or messy stuff needed. Just erase it, and blow it off. Simple, clean, and easy. Works perfect.

Meguiars make a product called trim detailer which will remove wax from the plastic. kind of a pain in the arse cuz it will remove wax from the paint too, so use a Qtip or something.
Clay-bar is a real pain in the arse. I don't know if I'll ever use one again. but if you do, remember that you shouldn't put pressure on the bar.

I'm a retired Boeing guy who runs a detail business on the side. I'm going to have to disagree with clay bar being a "pain in the arse" to use. I've found it very easy to use and about the best thing you can do to get a "mirror like" shine on your car. I have many of my return customers saying the main reason they use me instead of other detailers is the "mirror" shine I get on their cars. And I feel the only reason I have a step up on my competition is using clay bar where most others don't.
I have to agree with you Jerry, I have used a clay bar for the first time on my '04 Ram and it now shines like a mirror. Of course I just clayed my wife's 05 stang and it was hard to find where the wax was at after applying it. Just have to use plenty of detail spray while claying.

I've never been one to spend a lot of time cleaning a car, so to spend 4+ hours (1) washing, (2) claying, (3) washing, (4)polishing, (5) waxing, and (6) waxing again ...is a pain in the arse, comparitively speaking. Worth it, but still a pain. I've been disappointed with both detail shops in my area. I don't mind taking my old car there, but won't ever take the stang.
I am looking forward to seeing the Zaino results, but I really don't feel like doing it until the current wax is mostly worn off.

on keeping the black trim looking good, I spend about 5 minutes before waxing and tape off the problem areas on the car, the quaility painter masking tape will not leave residue even if left on in the heat, this wont work if you have a greasy product on trim.
on clay bar, I have the Meguires product, havent used yet, I have a black '05 does anyone (detail guys) have any tips on using, car is a about a week old, never preped at dealer, I washed w/ Dawn, waxed w/ Meguires pure carnuba looks good but has some small crap in/on paint still

Taping off the car is a very good idea to accomplish your goal. You can use masking tape, which is much cheaper and will get the same result. (We used to use it until we switched over to a wax that no longer turns plastics white)
AND from the sounds of it you are a perfect candidate for the clay bar. Keep in mind that if you wash your car often at all with something other than a car wash hand wash soap (automatic car washes are not typically "wax friendly") you will need to wax often. Carnauba is an organic wax and breaks down faster than other types of waxes. It is still good, don't get me wrong. If you go to www.zainostore.com they have great tips on how to clay and detail your car.
