Default Interesting comment on a exhaust system

Long story short, I have pre ordered the shaker hood system form CDC. I live in MD. and asked the who would qualified to install it without chipping the paint on my factory hood. They recommended Rockville Speed and custom in Rockville, MD. So i called they do some really interesting work there! I started getting prices for some new mods for the mustang and strongley suggested not to install an exhaust system unless i wanted it to be louder only. He told me the 05 gt exhaust is the best enginerred system he had ever come accross from a stock product. Note, this guy sells JBA, Bassani,Magnaflow and Flowmaster. Here is what he told me to do and what not to do.1. A fresh air is a must along with a super dyno tune, No new exhaust, and no underdrive pulleys. he siad he has done 11 gt's to date with and withou new exhausts and he is getting 30 to 33 hp at the rear wheels with tune 93 octain and a fresh air kit! what do you guys think! He also told me not to dyno until i had 1000 mile on the engine

Default The stock exhaust rocks

That's a really interesting piece of information you offered us and it bolsters my opinion all along about the GT Mustang's stock exhaust system. I've been saying all along that it's the JBA and Bassani or Magnaflow people who say that the stock system is way too restrictive which is a bunch of malarchy! I think Ford really did their homework in engineering the exhaust. It sounds great and most aftermarket systems out there are not providing much improved HP gain (4 to 6 max.). I'm sticking with my stock exhaust. On the other hand, I am itchy to get a CAI but I'm compelled to wait until the warranty is up.

Everything he told you sounds right. I installed a CAI and tuned it myself with 91 oct, and i got a 25 hp gain to the rear.

That is true if you don't "tune" it or modify the computer (i.e. using the Diablosport Predator or SCT) so it can use higher octane.

It won't hurt the engine. It may lower performance though. The whole point of higher octane fuel is that it doesn't burn as easily. To get a complete burn you want to use the lowest octane that your engine allows. If it wasn't for the computer controls the compression ratio of the 05 engine would require a higher octane. Basically the engine is detuned so it will run on 87 octane. If you reflash the comuter to increase performance it will then require a higher octane to limit precombustion.
Now if you use lower octane fuel than is recommended then you will risk damaging the engine as well as hurting performance

How did you pre-order the shaker hood already? I checked their site and it says they are not currently taking orders.

I called CDC they sent me a pre order form that I filled out and faxed back. I called yhem on monday to verify that they have it. She assured me that all pre orderes would be filled 1st. The hold hold up is the custom tune that is a must. All 05 are so sensative to air change the if you leave it stock the check engine light will come on.So as soon as they are comfortable with the tune specs the shaker will be released!.

What was his reasoning behind passing over on the underdrive pulleys?

Not sure...I don't have them(underdrive pulleys) yet but was thinking about them.

I agree that the stock GT exhaust is pretty damn good...but there is hp/torque to gain there with the replacement of the stock h-pipe. I went with an x-pipe and Magnapacks since I wanted something even louder. The catbacks don't do much as far as gain...most of the gains could be attributed to the x-pipe.

Rockville speed shop said that underdrive pulley are good for drag racing when you trying to squeeze every drop of hp. but if this a daily driver or cruise mobile and a occasional you want to flex your muscle and burry a new gto when no one is looking dont get the underdrive pulleys it will affect the air conditioning big time in slow trafic and put a strain on the battery! I must say he was refreshing i was prepared to get the exhaust system, pulleys. the air kit, and the super tune for about $2500.00 So now I will spend about 1200 the get the shaker hood scope which is a fresh ram air system and a super tune i will let you guys know how it all turns out I fly out tomorrow to GA. to get my silver bulliit roboha
