Question Bassani exhaust questions

I just recieved a full Bassani exhaust including the cats. I know it all bolts together with the clamps they give you and you take out the factory cats, H-pipe and axle-back. Has anyone done this install themselves? How hard is it? Also, does it turn on the check engine light? What tune did you use and did that turn off the check engine light? Lastly, living in NY I will have to switch back to the stock cats and H-pipe to pass my inspection in Novemeber. Would this automatically turn off the check engine light? Would I have to put the stock tune back? Any information would really help before I tackle this job. Thanks. :thumbsup

Lol, you should have researched all this BEFORE you bought. Hehe, I don't see too much issue with the Bassani mod, go buy June '05 issue of

5.0 Mustang Magazine, they do a detailed Bassani exhaust mod, less the cats as I recall. You don't need to mod the tune just to install Bassani but dyno check. If you put on the Bassani cats (street legal?), as long as they have the O2 sensor interface why should there be an issue? I don't see why you need to "swap" out the exhaust to get emissions passed unless you totally delete the cats maybe, even then you can "trick" the O2 sensors. You should thoroughly read your instructions and if any doubt, have a local muffler shop give advise. From what I hear of todays emmisions checks, as long as you don't throw a "fault light" due to O2 sensors, you will pass test, they only check the 'puter interface. I haven't done one in several years as I never have a car older than 4 years old.

I actually did quite a bit of research and found that the Bassani cats would not be legal in NY so I only ordered the x-pipe and axle-back at first. However, I got a great deal on the cats so I got them too thinking that if the whole thing bolts together I can switch them out before the NYS inspection.
The Bassani system does have a place for the O2 sensors both before and after the cats, however, I thought that b/c the emmissons are different with the high flow cats that it would turn on the check engine light. Anyone have this experience?

I called Bassani and they said as of now they have not heard that people were getting the check engine light when installing their high flow cats. They also said that when installing the whole system a tune is not required.
I also looked up NYS inspection standards on the DMV website and found that in NY cars are exempt from emissions testing if they are within two years of the model year of the car. I guess that would mean I could run with the techniqually not smog leagal cats until 2007.
Figured anyone else with this set up would want to know.
