I picked up my Torch Red GT Premium a week ago today. It had scratches on top of the spoiler but they were in the clear coat. The dealer wet-sanded them and applied more clear coat but now I have NUMEROUS dust nibs all over it. I just noticed this a few days ago and haven't brought it back to the dealer yet. Can they wet-sand and buff this out?
Also, the trunk has a patch on it that looks hazy at certain angles like the paint has started to turn chalky (but it's definitely under the clear coat). Based on my experience with the spoiler, I'm reluctant to ask for the wet-sand/clear coat treatment. I guess I should let it go since you can only see the defect at a certain angle, but it still torques me off to pay $29K for a car with factory-installed defects...
Anyone have similar problems? With this said, I still think the car is awesome! I'm a perfectionist though...
Take it back and show them the problem. Your 36 month bumper-to-bumper warranty covers both mechanical AND quality problems. I would say a blotchy paint job qualifies as a quality issue. And, I would demand they repaint the entire trunk (I know, new paint already!!) and not just do a quickie sand and buff. IMHO

Oh man the thought of clear coat problems makes me shudder. Back in 86 I bought a new Z28, GM had come up with a new water based clear coat that year that they had developed to meet tight EPA regulations. To make a long story short within three years I had peeled clear coat on every panel, the car looked like crap and needed to be redone. Anyhow with your case you certainly would be entiled to have the trunk redone but if it is not that bad I might just let it be. Granted your car has fresh paint and thus it should be easy to match right up but different batches applied under different conditions almost always seem to fade/age differently. A few years down the road your trunk may look pink instead of torch red, thats an extreme example but you get the point.

I noticed problems with the paint the first time I washed it. Scratches on the hood, trunk, front bumper and fender. Also when you look at it in certain light it looks bumpy, like an orange peel. When the dealer saw it he said it was 'acid' rain. They wet sanded it twice but it still does not look like it should. I am waiting now to see how many more owners have this problem. I don't want to have it repainted either, but I also don't want a car with a bad paint job. Other than that I love my 05 Red Fire GT convertible.
I have noticed the "orange peel effect" on mine as well. Its not smooth looking when you get it in certain light conditions... I love my car but this does piss me off. Keep us up to date of anything you find out! I love having ammunition when I go to the dealer!!!! That's why I love these sites. Its nice to walk in KNOWING what you are talking about!

Funny, I have no orange peel effect on my finish. Well, I should say, very minimal considering a finish sprayed by a robot that hasn't been wet sanded between each coat like you would for a custom job. Without sanding some orange peel can and should be expected because it's just the science of the spraying process.
They sanded the spoiler and applied more clear coat. It looks much better but it still doesn't match the quality of the finish of the rest of the car (which isn't bad in my opinion - not too much orange peel). I don't think they can do much more than they have already so I might try to find someone who doesn't want their Torch Red spoiler and swap it out...
As for the trunk, I'm going to leave it as is. You have to have the right light and the right angle to see the haze so I can live with it. Sure wish the spoiler hadn't been scratched during delivery though...
Also, filled up for the first time a few days ago and had no fuel filler neck problems (car built in late Apr 05).
