Default Synth oil and warranty

Thinking of switching to synthetic oil. Any impact on warranty if oil changes (with synch) are done every 10K instead of 5K? I paid up for an extended warranty so I don't want to do *anything* that could void it...

I just heard a conversation occur between our local Valvoline Oil Change station Manager and the Local Ford Dealership Service Manager, and I really couldn't beleive what I was hearing. The SM was telling the VOC Manager to put 5w20 semi-synthetic in the Must(V6), and the VOC Manager refusing, saying that the book (and the oil filler cap) call for 5w30 semi-syth. I don't thing this was ever resolved between them.

Feel free to switch to an appropriately rated (API SL or SM in a 5W-20 weight) synthetic if you wish, but I would probably refrain from going to extended oil change intervals until you are out of your warranty period!

Default if you care about your engine

if you care about your engine, change your oil and filter between 3000 and 5000 miles no matter what type of oil you use, and even if the warranty and manual say it can go longer

the only time even close to being ok to go over 5000 mi. is long trips on the highway in always clean air, or when you don't drive in extremes like high temps, low temps, short trips or stop and go trafic,

all oil breaks down (syn. oil takes longer and has better protection at the extremes) BUT, the main reason you have to get that oil out is that internal combustion engines produce acid like by products that end up in the oil, those by products along with a portion of dirt, etc. that gets by your air & oil filters wear on internal components like bearings surfaces.

with modern engines using the recomended weight / type oil is important, tolerances are closer then ever
for example the three valve 4.6 in the GT has variable valve timing that is controled in part by oil flow & pressure, if the thickness of oil used is not what the engeneers calibrated the system to work with, this function or whole engine may not run or wear correctly

I always use Mobile1 full syn every 4-5 thousand miles, a very smart person who knows oil told me a simple way to compare syn oil with petrol based oil.
syn oil is like a bunch of similer sized ball bearings between two surfaces and petro based oil is like a bunch of different sized and shaped X's between two surfaces
