Default 05 engine swap

Hello,
I own an 05 GT and am looking to upgrade the engine. So far I have looked at Ford Racing 351s and 392. Could any body tell me if either of these will fit and how hard it will be to do. Also, what parts I would need.

The 4.6 has so many aftermarket parts, it would be silly to totally swap it out. I would just upgrade - it's much easier.

If you're going to spend that much $$$ on a new engine, why not just rebuild the stock 4.6 to handle major psi boost, and nitro?

Default swap

Heya,
If you are dead set on swapping out your 3-Valve 4.6 then shop around. I would start at H+M Performance on Summit Avenue. They should be able to steer you in the right direction, if they don't have what you need.
As for me I am going to continue to modify my 05 GT with aftermarket parts.
Have fun

Fordguy - we'd like some of what you're smoking. You are ready to void the warranty, be illegal, and spend big chunks of money ALREADY? What would be wrong w/a supercharger?

I wonder how you'd adapt the 351 to work with the Spanish Oak processer? The last EFI 302's and 351's used the EEC IV system. The 4th generation Stang used EEC V. Guess it would have to be stand alone system or an old fashioned carb. I think Virgina has vehicle and emmissions inspections. Boy, wouldn't you love to get that thing through inspection.

I'm also thinking of a swap...no emissions here in WI. I want to keep the engine lite to keep the handling so I am considering aluminum block and heads...haven't considerd cubic inches yet...a tranny may be necessary etc, etc.

anything should fit, these 4.6L engines are fairly large. It will be easy to stuff something in but difficult to marry a foriegn engine to a somewhat technically complex car. Crank trigger ingition, servo throttle, cross talk with an automatic transmission etc. You will have to dissect and re-apply the engine control system or just junk the electronics and put a stand alone system in. A custom job that will take lots of cash.
A 05' stang with an all aluminium fuel injected big block would be pretty cool though. (a 428 at least, not just a stroked windsor.) Go for it and send pictures. I love to see what others spend money on.

My preference would to put a supercharger on top with longtube headers and maybe an electric drive water pump and call it good for 'bout 450+ horsepower. I think you could do that for less than a crate motor plus the engine management system mods. If you wound up with a carburator on a 351 you still won't be faster than a well modded 4.6L

decisions, decisions. good luck!
