Question

There are cold air intake kits advertised as no re-flash required. Are these of any value? Will the car run OK/better/worse...?

If you remove the HC Trap you better keep it on a shelf for future install. This trap is part of the emission system and if you live in a state that has a smog check program then when you take the car in (after 5 years in CA) the inspector will be checking to see that this item is installed. If not you will fail the inspection and you may be required to go to a State inspection center. Also reinstall the trap when you take the car to the dealer for engine complaints. The dealer may note that the trap has been removed and log that on Fords data info. These could lead to the warranty being voided.

I will remove the aftermarket CAI and install the stock unit and reflash the factory tune. My dealer is not even SVT certified and is not performance oriented. From what I've learned on this forum, is that some dealers are cool and some are not

The S197 MAF is uber sensitive to CHANGE.

Just a filter change may not require a flash but, what is the issue here?
I'm not wasting cash on a CAI that doesn't require a tune, it is either going to make me run lean or is just teasing the motor.

This is a detuned stock 4.6L from Ford, tuned for grandads.

A simple CAI-tune will wake this motor up like you won't imagine. No comparison.

Just do it. Don't panic, it won't void warrantly as long as you do it right from a reputable dealer.

If your have reservations, keep it stock but don't expect much bite from a filter swap, lol.

I'm not aware of a 62mm Ford Racing TB. Do you mean the 65mm?

If it's located in the air inlet tube isn't it gone once you replace it with the Steeda or other CAI? Or does it still fit in the aftermarket tubes. Thought they would be different sizes from stock.

Also, I recall in the review of aftermarket CAIs that has been posted on this site a number of times Brenspeed tested the stock intake without the carbon trap and found a 6hp gain by removing it.
