Question Vehicle Speed Sensor/Speed Signal Circuit...Please Help!

Hello Everyone,
Has anyone been able to locate the speed sensor box or speed signal circuit or vehicle speed sensor on our 05 Mustangs? I am having a really hard time finding it so that I can connect my Navigation system to it.

Any help would be great! I talked to the dealer and they have no idea and the emails I send out to stereo places are never replied to!

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Yeah, and will unplugging it just disengage the speedo and cruise like past models?

Check out page two of this thread; one guy says the VSS might be accessible direct from the Shaker wiring:

Macsimus,

I just went through this bit about 6 weeks ago. Immediately after getting my 05 I had the Pioneer AVIC-N2 installed professionally. We spent hours over this issue with the resulting answer being that the 05 does not have a speed sensor. This comes from Pioneer's research facility as well as Ford Motor Co. themselves. That leaves you with 2 options...

1) You should be able to install the navigation unit without the speed sensor connected. This is how mine is installed and to date I haven't had a single problem with navigation. And I use it every day.

2) The navigation manufacturer might have an adapter you can purchase separately to replace the speed sensor. Pioneer offers this option for their navigation systems. It was about $200 and I decided not to go this route only because I have seen no need for it so far.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the great reply, I appreciate it. If there is no speed sensor, then how did we have speed volume before in the shaker 500?

Not only that but my navigation works, I just don't have guidance. It shows me my route and it moves on the screen as I move, but I have no guidance. Do you have the guidance?

Thanks anyway.

The guidance is definitely there. My understanding of this whole thing is that the VSS is only used as a secondary resource to help keep the GPS on track, as well as miscellaneous things such as the speedometer, acceleration, etc. gauges that the Pioneer GPS comes with. It's really just fluff that I would never use. Like I said, I've had no problems at all and the guidance works perfectly.

I did check out the link that the poster before me referenced. The other conversation seemed to point out that a certain pin #14 was used by the Shaker to determine speed increases/decreases. That might be the answer if you can wire that specifc pin into your GPS wiring harness. The guy even had a Shaker wiring diagram in PDF. I'm thinking of PIMing him to see if I can get a copy of that. It may come in handy, as I'm wanting to change out my N2 for the D1. What kind of GPS did you get?

Thanks again but Pin #14 had no cable to begin with. We checked everything. It is really driving me mad. All I want is the guidance to work.

KENWOOD DDX7015 + KNA-DV4100 NAV

All I need is my guidance and then I can say "EVERYTHING" is working

I do not know what else to do. Maybe if you hear of anything, you can let me know...I would really appreciate it. Like I said, the diagram of the rear panel of the shaker 500 may be correct for some but there was nothing in pin#14. AHHHHH!

Thanks

Hello Macsimus, hello all:

I am just wondering how you solved your issue with the speed Signal?
I am in the same situation and like to connect a Navigation system. My understanding is, the spees signal to the shaker is transmitted via the CAN-Bus to the Shaker. But what about the cruise control? Is there a speed signal that I could use?

Sine there is a sensor for the speed that is used for the volume-speed and the cruise control, there should be a possibility to use this signal for a navigation system.

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic,
Richard

Default There is a VSS wire for 2005 + Mustang

Hello,

I am in the same siuation but have found the solution. I plan on makeing this connection tomorrow morning. Here is a link to a guy who did this for his Mustang with Pictures:

http://www.mustangforums.com/m_1399311/tm.htm

Here is a great forum for Pioneer AVIC fans/users. There is a lot of great info and a forum on just vehicle specific wiring. Here is a link to a thread with more good info on installing nav system in a new Mustang:

http://www.mustangforums.com/m_1399311/tm.htm

Basically the wire you want is on Pin #3 on the top connector to the PCM module. It is a dark blue / yellow stripe wire.

If you don't know where the PCM is or looks like- here is another doc to help. Just check out page 10. (This is instructions for removing unit but all you will be concerned with id finding a wire on the top connector.)

http://www.fnsweet.com/docs/2005-06M...ushcharger.pdf

I've been playing with this for a week now so no need for you to keep searching ...

Good Luck!!!

2 front wheel speed sensors and 1 differential speed sensor send signal to abs module. abs module communicates with pcm via can protocol. pcm controls cruise control through drive by wire throttle body. and communicates with the instrument cluster and also to radio, but they are not speed signal they are communication signal... forgot what hey are called.

the speed sense in the 05+ mustangs is dark blue/yellow at the pcm in the engine compartment towards the front passenger side. its in the top plug, pin 3. thats where i got mine at when i installed my avic-d3 and it does work. in the shaker wiring, it gets the speed sense through a data/computer signal wire instead of an actual vss wire.

Those ABS sensor signals are low level floating ground type also. If you really need one probably adding another sensor to one of the front wheels would be best. Anything I've ever tried with the wheel sensors ended in an ABS fault light.

Default Still no solution?

I just installed a Calrion Max685BT with the navigation NAX980HD and taped into the OSS(vss?)blue/yellow wire going to the PCM and no workable signal. Anyone have any suggestions?
