Removing the Air Silencer ?

Has any tried removing the "air silencer"?
I was reading about the air filter on this guys web site and he says something about removing this.

Are there any real benifits as to good sound or extra horse?

no silencer on an 05....previous years had them but not the 05.

Some do and some don't. When I took off the intake to replace it with the C&L MAF there was a silencer on mine.

I can't see taking it off and leaving a gaping hole there though. You'll suck who knows what into your intake.

I was thinking it would be a real bad idea down here in SW Florida with all the bugs (lovebugs) and mosquitoes. I would think it's kinda the same issue as the ram hood.
