i have a V6 5 speed 05 stang and im getting into performance and going to the drag strip now...i just got an MMR intake and Borla exhaust put on, i was just wonder, i know replacing the gears gives you more A/C. the track i go to is an 1/8 not a 1/4 so i was thinking about replacing my stock gears with a set of 4.10 gears, does anyone know how much of a difference that would give me or not even bother with it?

While I cannot tell you the exact difference you'll see, it will be pretty dramatic with the mods you've made. However, you should seriously consider a SCT X Calibrator as well, not only for the additional performance gain, but also it will allow calibration so your speedo will read correct. The downside is this may not be a good choice for everyday driving due to additional wear and tear on your powertrain and a loss of gas mileage. I am considering a gear change as well, but will probably go with a 3:73.

well right now im running a 10.1 in the 1/8, i know some of that is i need to practice my driving...b/c i've only been at the track 2 times but say i got 4.10 gears, how much time would it cut off of my 1/8. or do you think 3.73 gears would be different. actually i have been looking at a SCT but i need to save up more money for that, im only 18. but 1st im going to do gears
the expensive part of gears and tlok is not the actual part, but the installation, it will probably cost at least as much and probably more of the cost of the part to get it installed

Again, I don't know what times could be. I suppose someone who is in the know could calculate it out for you. I do know that I read a post where one guy with the same setup as you except with an SCT was turning 9.66 in the 1/8th mile. My best time with my current setup is 14.67 1/4 mile with 98MPH trap speed. I hope I could bring that down to the high 13's with a 3:73 gear but maybe I'm dreaming. Good luck!!

the installation isn't a problem...my dad works at a ford dealership so and he is the manager of parts and service so i have no problem getting it installed i'd get that done for pretty much nothing
I remember somebody posting a difference of about .2 off, but I dont know where he/she got that from.
TomStoner06, the 4.10's will have both a positive and negative drawback. The lower gearing will allow for quicker acceleration, yet cause higher rpm settings at high speeds. I've heard that in the 1/4 mile, this means that a normal GT would cross the line in 3rd gear (normally), while with the 4.10's installed you are required to make the shift into 4th. Depending on the driver's skill, this extra shift could add a bit more time onto your slip...

I'd agree with .02 for a driver experienced with 4.10s. But I wouldn't expect immediate gains until you've got the shifting patterns down.
