About a week ago I was going to buy a V8 grill and get the fog light look, but I decided not to. Too pricey (200-250 bucks) and does not fit without mod(s). Instead I bought a V6 grill off ebay for the low low price of 20 bucks, and will buy my own fog lights. I was thinking about hella 500 and inset them my self. They will just fit, and leave about 1/3 in" from Top and bottom. The rock guards will give the mustang a rally look also!! (realy cool I think). Please tell me what you think. I realy want some feedback before I start cutting.
Robot guy...Ive looked everywhere for the fog lights and grill for the v6 if you could can you tell me where you bout the lights and the grill...Thanks
When I have looked around for the real gt fog lights, they are expensive and hard to come by. The cheapest I have ever seen them were for 80 dollars on ebay. The Dealer told me 150 dollars, and I was like, "For the whole grill!!!" no just for the fogs. So buying GT fogs is not in the ballpark. So instead im just gonig to buy Hella 500 and insert them myself. Also, im going to document how I did it, and take step by step pictures. So all the V6's can have the gt look for a cheap price!
The lights I have ordered are 6 1/2", so they are bigger than the GT's. They look like the gt, so im gonig to be happy. They wont be factory, but they will look the stlye that im gonig for. People will not be able to tell, except if they have a gt of there own.
I think I saw those lights at PepBoys one day last week.I debated about buying them and trying to install them in one of my grilles.I believe the GT fogs are a 7 inch light which just barely fit in the GT grille so I doubt if they would fit in the V6 grille because its slightly smaller. Those 6 1/2 lights should work and look great. If you figure out how to mount them in the V6 grille please post the pictures,I would be interested in trying those also.I have put the 5 inch lights in a lot of grilles but would like to try the 6 1/2 ones.
I went to pep-boys yesterday and looked at the hella 500. After looking then over, I decied not to use them. Too expensive 79.99 and had a blue hella mark in the middle of the lens. But i did find something better! Pritty much the exact copy of the hella 500 but off brand. NV-331, Cheaper (19.99 to be exact) and did not have that symbol, Even better. So today I went to Homedepot and found out the 6" pipe connector works like a glove. And cost 3.96 so it will not break the bank also. So im jsut gonig to cut up to the lip (on the inside) and glue my fogs into that. Then just paint the 6" pipe connectors and cut the grill and install. You can go to my Cardomain and look what im talking about. Tell me what you think.
You took the lamp out of the plastic housing and epoxied the lamp into the pvc pipe without the housing.I guess I will be headed back to PepBoys, was there earlier today looking at the same light, looks like they were identical to the Hella lights but much cheaper.I have a extra V6 grille that I haven't cut a hole in yet so I may have to try it.Post some pics when your done. You will have to glue the pipe in the grille on an angle so it will point straight ahead.I put my grille on a workbench when I install the lights and use a tool that roofers use to find the angle of a roof and set my lights to 0 dergree's horizontally and about 5 degree up vertically which seems pretty close.I was going to find a GT and use this tool to see what Ford sets them to since they have all the engineering know how.I can get a picture of this tool if your interested.
Ya I just took them out of the casing. I have not glues them in yet becasue, I need to get my grill and try to match the White 6" pipe to the same color as the grill. Don't know if the grill is a statin finish or like a flate black finish. Have you painted the fog Lights before to match the grill? I just finished cutting the pipe and it took about 30 per 6" pipe connector. The trick i used was, Mesured 3" around the whole top of the connector. Then got a drill bit and made a cut about that 3" mark. after that, I got a jigsaw and jsut followed the black line around the whole pipe. Then i just got a razor blade and trimmed and trimmed till the lip was flush with the outside of the pipe. Use some very fine sand paper, and smooth the edges and top. And ya, I'm interested in the Degree thing, please send me a pic if you can. Tell me how you like my housing. If you make one send a pic and tell me how it goes! :thumbsup
It looks amazing
When I put it on the new grill I probably could not tell it was not a gt!!!
Looks pretty goog so far.I will get a picture of that tool today and it works pretty good.I make a lot of grilles with the 5 inch lights and that tool allows me to get them all pretty much the same.I assume the back of the light will be exposed or do you plan on covering it somehow?Leaving it open shouldn't be a problem unless you are outin a driving rain storm.I spent some time in Marietta, the company I worked for has and education center up there.Powers Ferry and can't think of the other road off hand. Its right where I-75 and I-285 come together.Keep me posted on your progress.
I was going to find a GT and use this tool to see what Ford sets them to since they have all the engineering know how.I can get a picture of this tool if your interested.
Per the shop manual park the car 25 ft from a flat vertical surface. The top of the "high intensity zone" should be 4 " below the horizontal center of the lamps. So the height from horizontal center to the CENTER of the high intensity zone should be your hypotenuse. You do the trigonometry and find the angle. (This of course applies to the full size fog lights of the GT.)
I went to PepBoys this morning and bought a set of those lights, they were 29.95 down here but thats not bad.Went to Home Depot but they don't carry 6" pipe or connectors so I may have to try Lowes. If I can't find 6" pipe down here may have to figure out a way to use the plastic housing some how. What I use to set the lights at the right angle is tack them in place with hot glue.sets quick and comes off if you have to move the lights.I tack them from the front and then epoxy them from the back when they are where I want them, that seems to work pretty well.
Mr wick,
When u go into home depot go to the back of the plumbing area. It is on the back wall. All homedepot are the same lay out pritty much. I will post the part # later tom. But I think I will do the glue stick thing too. But to level the lights I'm gonig to put a plum line on the top of the lights and just level it with that. I'm gonig to get the old hpusing and just cut it smug to the inside of the 6" coupe link.
Robotguy, i went to your cardomain and it looks like you have completed the process, looks outstanding. I've contemplated on the fog light upgrade, and when I saw Mr. Wicks design before, I was impressed but I thought the foglamps used were slightly small compared to the stock GT. The lamps you used look perfect.
Questions for you:
1. Did you cover the back of the foglamp? Does the lamp cover fit, or did you toss that out?
2. Did you have to cut the grill at any certain angle to properly align the foglamp casing you used? How did you manage to align the lamps?
3. Did you connect the wiring to make the foglamps functional? What's the best process if you did?
Again, I think this setup looks to be the most comparable to the stock GT and that's the look I'm going after, excellent job!
Red,
I placed the fog inside of the 6" housing then glued it in. Then I got the old fog light housing and placed it in the pipe. When you cut off the mounting bracket on the black housing it fits like a glove too. I will have the pic up tonight of what I'm talkinng about. I still have not decided to connect the fogs up to the high beams or not. But I did find a hole in the fire wall so I probly will run a wire and a switch to the center console. I have allready installed a P.A. System so I'm just gonig to follow the wire I used to install the P.A. Once I have everything install I will post every thing on cardomain. All I hope is that everybody will do this mod because it is soo easy and gives your car a great look after its done.
Yeah, the V6 really does look good with the foglamps, and I'm glad I have been patient over the last six months to wait for someone to come up with an affordable modification for the V6 to get foglamps. Wasn't ready to buy a new grill and foglamp kit.
