I have done a lot of research and talked to a few people and im still not convinced on which tuner SCT or Diablo is best. The main thing im aiming to correct/adjust is the hestitation on wide open acceleration. I love to drag race this car but the car does not launch well off the line at all! SCT has a two step on/off function. Does anyone know what this refers to? Does anyone know if either of the tuners corrects ford's limit on wide open throttle? I would diffently appreciate any advice on this. Thanks

I've got the diablo predator and I believe the problem is that the knock sensor is kicking in when you romp on it. I seemed to notice this when I had to remove my CAI and I put the 91 octane performance tune temporarily on the car but am running 93 octane and all I can say is DANG...off the line it's got a ton more power(just don't have the higher rpm power that I had with the CAI) then when I run the 93 octane tune. When I get my new CAI I'm going to use the 93 octane tune and take a little off the spark advance and see how that works.
I believe the throttle response hesitation can also be tied to the torque limiter in 1st gear. I've got an 05 V6 so the only option for me was the SCT X-Cal2... Works great, easy to use and Justin at Velocity Mustang Performance has been great to work with!
I can't say much about the Diablo since I've never used one... But I will tell you that the tune i've got in my car right now makes it feel like i'm driving a completely different car than the one i drove off the dealer's lot!
Which tuner is best?
The top 2-3 brands have their act down and so it's a matter of taste and what do you intend to do to your car?
I quit looking for small "insignificant" (street daily driver) differences a long time ago. For me, I went with Predator. Was it the BEST choice? Dunno, but I have had great dynos and only peeps higher than me have headers, X-pipe and/ or ported heads.
If one keeps "checking" on this question, you will miss hours of fun driving. Just pick one, you will not be sorry.

Go with the Predator because you can change the spark advance, air/fuel ratios, rev limiter, speed limiter, etc. right at the track...
With the SCT, you have to send it back or wait for a tune through email...
I have the Diablo Predator and love the fact that if I don't like something, I can change it in about 5 minutes...
Good Luck,
Dave
ummmmm.... That's not true... I can make those changes to my SCT X-Cal2 without out waiting or sending anything... Currently you need to use the Extreme Tune program on you PC (which is a FREE download) to make changes... So right now you'ld need to take your laptop to the track... but I'ld take my laptop anyways so I can do some datalogging... eventually SCT will add the ability to make those changes right on the X-Cal2 just like the Predator in an up coming version of the firmware...
SCT X-Cal II for so many reasons I have posted here before during this last half year... But here are a few again...
It is more precise
It touches more perimeters
It goes deeper in the software
It is what tuners use on their own cars
CAI w/ Diablo custom tune 282, same car w/ SCT 289 (round numbers)
ProCharger same as above 432 to 446 (round numbers)

Hey,
My install CD from SCT cannot access the extreme tune from the CD....strange.... and I cannot download it from sct website....stranger. Is there anywhere else I can find the extreme tune program?
You will have those issues with any can tune. You need a custom dyno tune to really get those small issues out. I also would not be messing with your AFR unless you are data logging your car while you are driving. You can adjust your WOT and lean and rich out your car with the SCT.
I would get SCT just because most Tuners Tune with them have have SCT Software

I use the Diablosport tuner and the C&L Racer 93 octane tune. There is no hesitation when I nail it and it pulls hard in each gear. I'm not familiar with (Ford's limit on wide open throttle) that you make mention of. The only limiters I know of are on the max rpm and max speed. The Diablosport tuner has the capability to reset the speed limiter and the rpm limiter as well as max rpm limit on shift points in case you miss a gear.

BS - SO NOT TRUE, I make all those changes and more.
OP - I have had both and I changed over to the SCT, for two reasons, More tuners in my area tune for SCT. second I have an automatic and at the time Predator did not have the options to change shift points and shift pressure and SCT did.
It's not the tuner that will give you the performance you want, it's the Tune you get. the handheld is only a device that uploads the tune and allows you to make changes to the tune being uploaded.
I also do data logging on my tuner to my laptop, SCT has some great software for this, coupled with my A/F Wideband serial interface, I can capture a ton of info.
So it does not matter what handheld you get, it's all in the tune.
Just noticed that this thread is over 2 years old
