DataLogging - the unexpected benefit of a new XCAL2
I discovered that the XCAL2 datalogging feature can tell you speed, distance travelled, throttle position, rpms, and (I think) clutch engagement..all on a timeline....wow...I never really thought about what I could datalog....now...oh man...unexpected tools to log, compare and critique your launching and shifting anytime yiou want!
Did I really powershift like I thought I did?
How fast are my speedshifts?
When I shift by sound only, what are my shiftpoints?
What was my 0-60, or 0-100 or 1320 time on this long desert highway with cool wind in my hair?
and with temperature sensors...we can answer the question plastics or cast aluminum intake tube?
Too friggin cool.
Now I need to go weld that bung in and tweak away!

Yep the stuff is very cool... Like you I've used to calculate 0-60.. shift firmness (automatic) and it was very handy for diagnosising my intermittant "failsafe" problem... I had a faulty TPS... you could actually see the voltage drop and go goofy!
Just a note to the Diablosport Predator crowd, you can do the same. I was amazed to see how the spark retard is always changing depending on conditions. Like when I hit the nitrous the ECU instantly works to retard and advance spark as needed. Cool.

Sounds like your knock sensor is picking up some detonation and pulling some timing... may want to think about pulling some timing on your nitrous tune... I think the spark knock sensor will only pull some much timing... just a thought...

Thanks for the thought, fishingjts, since I've been on this board I've always respected your opinions.
However, I'm pretty sure I have no detonation (my AFR is right down the middle and my daily driving tune is very conservative 91 octane tune made by the most respected tuner in this area, Blood Enterprises), just normal adjustment to spark. Check out your retard during normal everyday driving, without nitrous. The retard is constantly changing. It's just a very dynamic engine. My 4.6 anyway, not sure about your 4.0. A buddy of mine with a bone stock GT sees the same dynamic spark adjustments during normal driving.

are you guys running wide band O2 sensors? How does that work? I've discovered the joy of dattalogging, but think I'd have a lot better info for changes if I had the wide band.

Widebands are on the future mods list. It doesn't matter how you tune your car, if you don't know your air/fuel you don't know if you could be damaging your engine. I'm just talking about the data you get from your OBDII port for logging with your Predator/Xcal. You can tell a lot about what is happening in your engine with this data. For instance when I was getting dyno'd the technician could tell by how the spark retard was acting that my nitrous shot was reaching the engine before the fuel shot. Which makes sense since the nitrous is at 1000 PSI and the fuel at, what, 40 PSI? So we made the nitrous hose a foot longer, thereby delaying it's delivery by a bit. The HP and torque curves smoothed out immediately because the engine wasn't trying to deal with a lean condition (when pure nitrous was delivered) then immediately after that a more lean condition (as the fuel shot finally arrived a split second later).

dont forget guys. it has variable timing. (at least the GT anyway, dont know about the 6) got to love it. its even cooler that you can see it work on your tuner, especially when you hit the nos.

We've had 28 consecutive days of rain here. Hard rain. No N20 for 3 over three weeks. However, the track opens up for test 'n tune in 3 weeks. I'll finally get an ET with the nitrous and new gears. If it ever stops raining.

btw, send some of that rain down here! we are burning the hell up in OK. friggin fires every where. havent had a drop since Oct. mid Oct at that! worst drought weve had in 20 years theyre saying.... cant even grille a steak outdoors with the burn ban. seriously, its getting bad!

Have you done any datalogging with the X-Cal2? Basically you need to hook your x-cal2 to your car and to a laptop. The laptop need to have a package called LiveLink from SCT (it's a free download). You can then log all kinds of thing on your car, including MPH and Distance Traveled Since Start Up. I use this method for my 0 to 60. This assumes of course that your speedometer is accurate...
