whats wrong with Hooker headers? I've heard only good things about Kooks, but i'm not about to spend $1,300 for stainless when i can get ceramic for $650 w/shipping.

I have seen some Hookers advertised for like $350 that are jus the plain old steel ones that rust and look like crap in a few months.
THe $1300 Kits that are stainless are with the H-pipe. When JBA, Stainless works, and Kooks are $1300-$1400 and Hookers are $650... what does that tell you. Either you dont get as much stuff or the quality of construction or material is less.
Good luck in whatever you choose, but I like mine because they will always look nice and silver and I know they are built well.
:thumbsup

I pretty sure any "plain old steel" headers will rust, no matter what company makes them.
I believe JBA was the first company to come out with long tubes for our cars so of course they'll charge an @ss load for them, and I've only found Kooks as a kit and they don't look all that great to me, sorry. I know that Holley has been around for a long time, so i'm sure they're products aren't bad. Also, paying more for something doesn't always mean its better, sorry.:thumbsup
There IS a differance in steel, do a search on here and you'll find a looong debate!
As I recall the Kooks system use superior stainless steel and will NOT rust for as long as we'll live! They decided cheramic coating was not neccessary to keep the heat up since theirs are a bit shorter than the JBAs for example. A benefit of that is keeping the heat away from the engine while the exhaust temp is hot enough to escape quickly. Kooks also use a fire-plug to 'fake' a longer header and larger collector...
I know the Kooks make +20 RWHP catted and close to 30 off-road, JBA is close... what does Hooker make and how is the fit quality? What kind of SS do they use, 400 grade is acceptable if coated, 300 desirable! Will they install without moving the engine? Will you need new engine mounts? Gaskets, O2 extensions? A mid pipe? Or use the stock one with the restrictive cats?
I'm not against Hooker by any means but I know the material alone cost more in the Kooks system!
