Default Performance Upgrades - What are the options?

Hi there

I am the lucky owner of a Saleen S281 Ford Mustang 2005 GT. Over here in Great Britain owning such a car is a rarity as we don't see many Mustangs on our roads unfortunately.

Anyway the car has no modifications except for the Saleen factory modifications which can be seen at www.saleen.com that give a stock horse power of 325BHP.

My questions are what are good modifications to increase performance further? My thoughts were maybe a CAI kit but which is best and then maybe some 62mm throttle bodies to improve throttle response?

Any recommendations from people here? Obviously the other option is maybe a Saleen Supercharger.

Hi there

Come one help us guys please!

Definetely want a CAI kit with tuner, what should I go for?

At the moment am edging towards the TI kit with the XCAL2 tuner, is this a good choice, is it the best?

Not to bothered about money I just want the best performance kit for my car please.

I'm not sure what mods were done to the Saleen's that don't have the supercharger on them, but I think some of the tweaks were to the computer.

A CAI will get it to breathe better but you will probably need someone to work up a good custom tune. I've been having trouble with my CAI and getting lean codes so the tuner wants to keep my car for a few days to work up a good tune. Just to tell you mine stock was dyno'd at 258 RWHP and after a couple hours of tuning went to 271 RWHP on 87 octane fuel. I belive the premium tunes net around 25 hp over stock. Not sure if yours premium fuel only but that might explain the 25 hp increase over the stock GT's.

HI m8

Our fuel here in the UK is equal to your Octane 93/94 fuel which is great except for our fuel prices of course.

Think I am definetely going to go ahead with the TI CAI kit and Octane 93 Tune.

Just considering now the posibility of maybe some throttle bodies and headers at the same time to save on shipping by getting it all sent over at once.

Anybody here have comments?

Throttle body's = waste of money, they dont work, or atleast barely...the most positive thing ive heard about it is, one guy said he gained about 2hp......save the $ buy something else

Thanks for that m8! I shall avoid then.

From my research it would appear the best two mods is the CIA kit with tune and some long headers? Do people agree?

CAI, LT's, xpipe/hpipe new mufflers.

i think custom tunes add like 20-25hp onto the stockers but im not sure...

could get an electric water pump, lighter driveshaft, would sneak you maybe an extra 30rwhp

You must be rich if your paying 6 bucks a galon to fill your mustang. I'm paying 3 bucks and its about 40 bucks to fill mine up. I'm averaging 18 MPG

CAI + tune (15-25 rwhp), headers + H or X with high flow cats (~20 rwhp), 4.10 gears (no hp gain but quicker off the line), electric water pump (10-15 rwhp), underdrive pullies (~7-10 rwhp). For $2500-$3000 you can add as much as 70 rwhp. Or you can go for broke and add another 125 rwhp by supercharging, but that'll cost you anywhere from $3500-$5000.

People don't commute as far or drive as much in Europe compared to the US I'm sure. It's all relative.

One of my co-workers drives 3 hours total each day. 1.5 one way.

258 stock? Isn't that a little low? I heard 270 stock?
