Default tire size for 18x10?

ive been looking into buying two 18x10 deep dish bullitts for the rear.
im contemplating what the best size tire would be?ive been looking at the nitto 555 285/45/18.is that the meatiest tire i can go with?

whats your opinion on running the 18's in back with the stock 17's up front.
should look pretty good and save me some money as well.
has anyone ran that setup?

285/40/18 is good for 18X10. I've never heard of anyone doing the combination you're talking about. I think it would look like an abortion.

285/40/18 is optimal if your keeping teh stock fronts (i think the stock profile is 55?)

ok woodi,id like to know what exactly would look like an abortion?having a larger wheel then the front?im not sure im following ya?
anyways,the stock tires are 55 series,so i was thinking with an 18 inch wheel i should go with a 40 or a 45 series.sound about right?and i may end up with a 275 instead of a 285.

I am about to put 18X10 DDs on the back of mine and keep the stock fronts also. If you run a 295/40/18 their is .44" difference in the overall height of the tire. It will make a .26mph difference at 65mph. To look at them from the side the front and the rear will pretty much look like the same size. If 295s are too wide ( or expensive ) and you want to go with a 285, the height difference is .60", the speed difference at 65 is 1.48mph

As for the size you are looking at, the height difference from stock is .40", and the speed difference at 65 is 2.2mph. That might be just enough to make you think about a recalibration to keep the PCM from freaking out at speeds above 70.

This IntelliTXT stuff sucks.

Larger wheel in back than front. I'm assuming you don't have the car lowered? Wouldn't having a smaller wheel in front put even more of a "rake" on the car? That used to be a popular look in the 70's. I can certainly remember airing up my rear shocks on my 65 1/2 Mustang to get the rear end up. Abortion isn't really the right word I meant that I think it would look odd. Maybe not I don't know.

yeh the car has steeda ultralite springs.i see what your saying now.but if i choose the right tire they should look even, since the tires both front and rear will still be around the same height.maybe hawgman will get his done before me and post some pics.

I'm running 285/40 on my 18x10 DD Bullitts because they are the closest to the stock diameter I could find. I have seen pictures of the 295/45 but I thought they looked good but a little too tall for my taste. I also saw pictures of a set of 305/35-18’s on a 10” wheel but thought they looked noticeably shorter than the fronts (255/45-18) when viewed from the side. All in all I personally liked the even look of my current setup but just my opinion. Go with whatever you like.

I would be very interested in seeing the setup 06tungstenstang and hawgman are contemplating. I thought very seriously about that setup myself before deciding on my current one. My biggest concern was getting a set of DD Bullitts that match stock bullitts. I had read the spokes aren't the same exact shape and the color wouldn't be an exact match. I can tell you the spokes are a little different but it is subtle. I think it would still bother me though. I can't comment on the color mismatch because I went with black DD.

06tungstenstang-
You said you are thinking of putting 275s on the rear. That is what I have on my 06. 275/40X18 rear and 245/45X18 front. I like them. With my deep dish bullit wheels, the tire wall is 1/8" recessed from the widest part of the top fender in back. My car is Satin Silver, but here are some pics anyway.
