I'm having my rear end gears changed and am curious to know if anyone else with an auto trans has upgraded their stock gearing. The stock gearing 3.31 and it sucks. No off the line giddyup, takes at least 30' before she really kicks in. Plan on changing to the FRPP 3.55:1 or 3.73:1, still not 100% sure yet. Don't want to go to far and lose lots of top end, but then again, want something that will "light um up" when I want it to.
I installed the 3:73's and I like them a lot. If your going to do a lot of racing at drag strip, them the 4:10's would be better. If your car is a daily driver, then the 3:73's. Here are some videos how my car does at the track. AJ is my son, his best time was 8.3ET. My car is also S/C'd with a Saleen blower, and it's a automatic.
I have a similar question. I have a manula seed with a stock rear end. I am interested in changing my rear end gears out as well. with the engine/performance mods I have and plan on in the near future, I expect to be running about 350+ rwhp. I am not interested in pure drag strip, unlike GTStang06, I am looking to go either 3.73 or 3.90, I do not think I need 4.10. Any advice?
from what I've seen in the auto's 3.73's are the gear of choice. "DISCOFAN" has a similar setup to "MSgt."I think you could get away with 4.10's if you don't plan on FI. 4.10's with FI will make rubber soup
Im having 4.10s installed next Wed....picked them up today ..FRPP baby Automatic. I dont do much highway driving ...4.10s for me.

Thanks gang. Since it will be a daily driver and on occassions street drags vs. drag strip (got my fill of that many years ago drag racing cycles), looks like my decision will be the 3.73's. Was suprised at the price I was quoted by Ford Performance dealer that will be installing them. They wanted roughly $50 more than what Summit Racing is selling them for, so.....got a good deal on the install though, so it will work out in the end. Having them installed week after next. One more question. For those taht got the FRPP Ring & Pinion Gears, which Installation Kit did you opt for. There's 2 available, the 4210-A and the 4210-B. Not sure which one I'll be needing. Dealer already has pinion bearings in stock, so I'm ok there, in case it needs replacing.
go with the 3:73 i just had them done and with a performance tune and it works out great on the highway realy wakes the car up and i'm running 20's on it
You want to go with 3.73's. Its a world of difference. My GT is a daily highway driver. The new gears have made driving the car in 5th gear a lot more fun.
I only recommend FRPP rear end gears. The installer must be very experienced at installing gears, otherwise you wont be happy.
The gears are great. The big issue is getting the car to launch correctly. Stock tire wont work........you'll just sit there and smok'um.
A lot of post are reommending the M/T Drag Radials for the strip.
Have fun

+1, with drag tires you also have a lot less chance to fishtail on the track. A few weeks ago I was using my street tire at the drag strip and fishtailed so bad that I went into the other lane heading for the wall, fishtailed again away from the wall back into my lane.
Be safe and get drag tires.
IMO, you need to go up 2 gear sizes to make it worth the cost. For example, if you car came with 3.31s, then skip the 3.55s and go 3.73s or higher, 3.55s skip the 3.73s and go 3.90s or 4.10s. The thing if you go up only one gear ratio then you will barely be able to tell. Use a little math, I went from 3.27s to 3.73s (in my 97) which is about a 14% difference, had I went with 3.55s I'd have about 8% difference. I almost went with 3.90s+ and some days I wish I had. Another thing to consider is the taller wheel tire combo on the new cars, you need a steeper gear to offset between the older cars. If I had a S197, I would do 3.90s or 4.10s nothing less.

I picked up the 4210-B kit but I dont need half the stuff in there....If your dealer has the pinion bearing which I understand thye cant get the old bearing off the pinion without messing it up so you will need a new one for sure...So Im told??? the B kit has axle bearings in it also and carrier bearings too which we dont need for sure. is the A kit cheaper.....I paid 89.95 for the B kit...219.95 for the 410's ....Im thinkin all we need is the A kit?????
