Default New break in period

Got done this weekend installing Steeda UDP, JBA Long Tube headers w/catted H-Pipe, and MRT Aeroturbine mufflers, and a CAI plus XCT custom tune to put it all together.

Question is with all the new pieces and parts should I take it easy at least initally 150-1500 miles or is there really any break in period. I'll go to the shop in a week and recheck the bolts on everything but other than that am I good to go?

Thanks to everyone on the site your input and expertise has really helped me build what I believe to be a beautiful car.

Hey POCO thanks for the great compliment on the wheels. Hope you enjoy yours, they look great. :thumbsup

Nothing that you installed is really subject to wear, so there shouldn't be a need to break anything in. BTW, how do those mufflers sound? They employ a somewhat different principle of sound dampening.

To tell you honestly I am a bit disappointed I was going for a roar at wide open and these mufflers make a very loud blat sound. Good performance no question but volume and tone...

Spectre: how's those long tubes doing, did you get the gains you had hoped/expected? I'm close to having some LM headers installed along with some catted x-pipes, but am still trying to decide whether to go with the Kooks LM's or JBA's. JBA's are more affordable, but will I get the hp gains that I'm hearing the Kooks give? Decisions-Decisions. Also plan on having some CMDP's and UDP's installed as well. Did your UDP's also make a noticable difference?? I'm gathering by reading all the info on this site, that in order to get the pony where most want it-lots of "giddyup", you need to do all the mods...CAI-Tune, Headers, UDP's, CMDP's, X-Pipe......wow, that's a mouthful.

They (the headers) are most likely within a couple of hp of each other which is imperceptible.

Hmm, in that case...I would be saving a great deal of moolaa by going with JBA's. I'd even have some $$ left over for gas....

Interesting thing happened the other day after I had been driving the car for a week, and finally coming to the conclusion that I was going to put stock mufflers behind my other exhaust mods was the only way to get a good sound. After I was on the highway stopped to get gas and took off again the whole sound of the car was different the drone was gone, and it only blatted at very high RPMs. Don't know what all that was about but everything sounds great now. I love the JBAs with the other mods and the tune the car is flat out fast and loud, life is great. Unfortunately, I did everything all at once so I can not tell you how each new mod improved the car.

Flipped a coin and Kooks LM's won. Actually, after researching the JBA's and Kooks and as 65sohc said, their to close to call on which one provides better hp gains, so..MD Motorsports here in Cincinnati is offering a heck of a deal on the Kooks with X-pipes, w/ or w/out cats combo. Locked up the order today, having them installed 6/13. One question I had and it got answered was whether or not the X-pipes would mate up to the stock pipes (catback). Answer was yes which made me feel better. One comment Ken Bjonnes with MD made was that the Kooks will more than likely change the sound from the mufflers. He recently installed some on a car that had magna-flows and the owner didn't like the sound, so he went back to the stock GT mufflers which he liked better. Curious how the sound will be with my Flowmasters?? Am looking forward to the new dyno tune and what the new hp gains will be.
