Be aware! The new smell (and power / response) may be from melting the cats with hotter exhaust from a leaner mixture! The SCT and MD tunes are about as good as it gets for a SAFE canned tune! If it's too good to be true it probably is... get it data logged!

Man, that doesn't sound too good. Anyone else get that smell w/ the above mentioned tune? I get behind some of the old muscle cars around town and you can smell how rich they're running.

I've had all of doug's tunes ... and never had a problem (as far as smell goes, but then again no car is exactly the same) ... just tried out his race tune this weekend (and it is free of charge if you have bought his tunes before) ... and i love it ... probably won't change back to the torque tune ... race tune seems to have decent even torque in the middle (and my 4.10s make up for torque anyways) and has awesome power up top ... as far as doug goes ... he's been the best on response time for everything (except when he's out of town of course ) ... I never do this ... but, I give Doug a :thumbsup

It's the old "rotten egg" smell, ie. hydrogen sulfide, which is usually indicative of a rich mixutre, not a lean one. It seems strange that I would have this since the AFR should still be in closed loop at low speeds and thus operating at 14.7:1. I'll run this by Doug. I did reinstall the SCT tune and the smell disappeared, along with a big chunk of torque and throttle response. I much prefer the Bamatune.

Default Any word on the "rotten egg smell?"

65sohc-

Did you ever get an idea of what was causing the exhaust smell with the Bama tune?

And did you stay with SCT or go back to the performance tune?

No, I never did. I've switched back and forth several times but always go back to the Bamatune. The car just feels better.

BTW, I had a horse like that once. He was fast in a straight line but didn't corner too well.

Hi there

Gotta give further praise for Doug and John (Bamachips & JP Demolet/Tunable induction).

As JP Demolet knows when I fitted the CMRC delete plates Dougs tunes were causing me engine fail-safe mode. John got me a new form SCT which fixed the engine fail safe mode. But unfortunately the car was not as responsive and seem to lose quite a bit of torque.

Anyway Doug got in touch with SCT and got some new values to fix my problem with his tunes. His new tunes fixed my engine fail-safe and further improved throttle response along with torque and power. However I still felt as if the car was not quite as sharp on throttle response as it had been previously even though it was definetely quicker with the Charge Motion plates installed.

Anyway I mentioned this to Doug and was not really expecting anything much back, but Doug been the top guy he is investigated the new values SCT were adding to make sure engine fail safe was prevented and he stumbed across some settings which I can't remember as Doug went all technical.

However since, Doug has wrote me a new race tune. He does say its a work in progress and adviced me to test it on not so busy roads in case it triggers the engine fail safe. BUT upto now the grinn on my face is huge as I have never known my car to pull so damn hard from so low down in the rev range. Even in 4th gear at just over 1000rpm it will pull like a train. Then if you boot it around 4000rpm it just pins you back in your seat in all gears including 4th. I am now just hoping all goes well and the car does not go into fail safe mode, so keeping fingers crossed.

All I can say is since I got my first tune from Doug I was impressed, whats even better is the guy is so dedicated and will do whatever it takes to keep his customers happy. Its looking like Doug has put together a truly cracking tune for my car and if everything goes well with no fail safes I'd advice anybody with CMRC Delete plates to get Dougs race tune, just make sure you ask him for the version he gave to Andy/Gibbo205 in the UK.

Also remember Doug only charges $50 for his tunes and then gives free lifetime support afterwards. His tunes have easily gotta be amongst the best or the best. Only way you could do better is to actually get your car on a dyno in my view.

Doug you is the man!! :thumbsup

I have all of dougs tunes as well, got the race one and there was a flat spot at the start under slow acceleration, told him about it and he immediatly sent me an updated one the next day and it works great.
