If the Redline fluid you used met the manufacturer's specifications for the API rating (note that API rating is NOT viscosity), then that's Toyota's fault, not the lubricant's. If it didn't meet the API rating, then it's your fault, not the lubricant's.
There are several different API ratings for gear lube and using the wrong one absolutely will cause damage. In some cases, the wrong API spec will even eat away at the synchros themselves. Many manual transmissions don't even use gear oil anymore, they use ATF or engine oil. Gear oil would damage those transmissions too.
