Cool Alternator failure question??

This has been addressed before but today my 06 gt with only 3000 miles is at the dealership getting the alternator replaced. When the car was new I had the under drive pulleys installed. Do these pulleys REALLY have anything to do with alternator failures or are these alternators just weak? The dealership is covering it on the warranty. Thanks.

The pulleys have nothing to do with the alternator failures. All the pulleys do are change the speed that the alternator spins. The alternators are engineered to have max discharge capibility by like 2k RPM ( or so ). So unless your car sits around idling all day and you never have it to 2k RPM, your alternator is performing at it's maximum.

Ford alternators are kinda crappy, just like their batteries.

This IntelliTXT stuff sucks.

There are some quality alternators out there that some of the Car Audio guys use. I dont know what they make these days but I had a 200 amp alternator intstalled when i had my stereo system in my other car and that thing was great and very good quality. Stock ones probably have 100 amps or so.

The dealer installed a new stock unit at no charge, but if this one goes south I will look at buying the 200amp sincity talks about.
