I need to remove the rear spoiler on the trunk lid, I removed the 4 nuts but there is a sealant between the spoiler mounts and the trunk lid, does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove the adhesive without ruining the paint??
Im afraid if I pull the spoiler off it will take the paint with it.
I just finished removing mine tonight.
If the 4 studs did not come off with the nuts, remove them with a 4 mm socket. They have a 4 mm hex on the end of them. Then get some small nylon twine, a little bigger than dental floss(mint flavor).
About 4 ft of twine should do.Wrap each end around a small piece of wood so you have two handles.Slip under the spoiler, and with a sawing motion, pull toward you.It should cut right through like butter.I then rubbed the goo with my fingers and worked it up into a ball and removed most of it.What was left, can easily be removed with a chemical like goof off, or maybe bug and tar remover.
hope this helps

I removed mine last week and picked up on the spoiler and saw the goop your talking about.I used an exacto blade and carefully cut around the base.It finally cut away.I used some piant and wax remover from PPG.to clean up the glue. The factory two sided tape is some very strong stuff. This may have not been the best way but it worked for me.Poco
I took mine off 2 weeks ago. Pretty much the same method as jeffsmachine. I used a hair dryer to soften it some, and a plastic bondo spatula to push it into a ball so that it could be pulled off. I didn't have the guts to use an exacto knife or anything metal. Goof off took off the remaining residue. To cover the holes I polished some stainless steel pan head machine screws, then put a stainless steel washer under the screw head and a rubber washer with a light layer of white grease under the stainless steel washer. This worked well to keep out moisture on another spoiler removal that I did.

I've removed three different spoilers with a blade. But the hairdryer sounds like a safer method, getting the goo softer with some heat would be just the ticket. And yes I have guts, skill and a steady hand
Thanks for the tips.I used 10# fishing line, came right off. Had a hell of a time taking off the adhesive, the boys at Flat Rock must of used the good stuff that day.
Goop remover and elbow grease took it off. I think the car looks better without it.
Put 4 stainless carrige bolts in the holes, found some Testors model paint in tungston gray will touch them up.

I can vouch for Poco's steady hand he helped me pull mine last weekend to swap on his old spoiler. :thumbsup

The type of 3-M tape I used was two sided and I purchased it at a body and paint supply shop.It does come in different width's and usually comes in 10' rolls or longer.
