Default Brake reservoir leaks. Fix?

I recall reading somes posts on this issue in the past but can't seem to find any so I don't think I am the only one with this issue.

Anyway, my break fluid reservoir has been leaking. I wipe off in between car washes and there is always fresh fluid on the outside that dirt is sticking too. I can't tell if it's overflowing or something is wrong with the reservior itself. The cap has been replaced once. Break Fluid is not being added during tune ups.

Recommendations?

Dealer replaced my cap, they said the seal on the cap was probably bad and they had not heard of it from any other owners.

Normal problem to have with other stangers on the board. Have the cap relaced again, many seem defective.
Otherwise they must fix it if still under warranty.

It's a widely know issue, try putting some plumbers tape aka pipe tape around the threads on the brake fluid resevoir.

There is a small slit in the top of the rubber gasket and the fluid is likely coming up through that slit, over and around the gasket.

Mine had too much fluid and I removed ~4oz to bring in down to normal levels and no noticable overflow since.

Mine leaked too. I had the cap replaced and it too is now leaking. I will get them to replace it again.

I had an 2004 Ranger and 2003 Mach 1 and they both leaked and the dealer replace both of them under warrenty and the problem was fixed on both cars.

No fix, but someone mentioned that because of the leak, the paint under the master cylinder body was starting to peel. Mine was leaking when new,but not since dealer removed some fluid.

I put a homemade rubber gasket under my cap, seems to be keeping the leaking at bay.

Hey FORD, why is this such a problem???? It's not just Mustangs, Fords in general are known for their leaking brake reserviors.

Why hasn't this been fixed??? GRRR, it's such and easy problem to fix.

I made a rubber gasket that seems to work pretty well, I can't understand why Ford doesn't understand this.

Go to the auto parts store and but a sheet of rubber gasket material, as thick as they have. Then cut out a circle that fits into the cap. You're done.

Well you do have to screw the cap back on.

Mine leaks too on the 06. I think the gasket is leaking as there shouldent be fluid between the cap and the bladder. I bought a new cap, it is going on tommorow.

I also lowered the level by a bit and it helped. But it sloshed around and leaked a bit after a couple weeks.

If fluid is getting out, dirt and moisture can get in. And it is supposed to be a sealed system.

Thats true, if fluid is getting out "moisture" is getting in which is very bad for brake fluid, brake fluid absorbs moisture very fast. and is why you see your fluid get dark, thats corrosion in all your brake components and why master cyl's and calipers go bad. So if you have an 05-06 with dark brake fluid, get it flushed.
