I have a question about gears, i am thinking of the Motive 3.90s or FRPP 4.10s What brands are noisy and what brands are better and quiet. Just wanted input from experience on here. thanks

thinking about...vt stage 2 blower cams, vt stage 2 heads, built rear, forged bottom end, baer brake kit and kenne bell...or still might sell for a 03/04 cobra before i do anything major to my gt
I have always heard that the Ford FRPP gears are really good, but I just installed a set of Motive 3.90s with a Detroit Truetrac in a spare pumpkin to go into the IRS in my Mach1. I have done a number of gear installs over the years, and have been able to get good results with most brands of gears, but as much as possible I stick with better known brands.
I just switched from Motive 3.90s to FRPP SVO 4.10s.
The motives were noisy. The SVOs are silent.
Most importantly find the right installer. Ask if he has the tools to measure pinion depth to the thousandth of an inch, if he doesn't or says he's been doing it for years without the proper tools, move on. If you can find an installer that's dedicated to doing differentails only, go that route. I just learned a hard lesson about not having gears installed correctly.

I've heard that the Motives are hit-and-miss, while the Ford gears are almost always quiet... If I were to choose, I would go with Ford all the way!
Ditto the FRPP gears. Just had some FRPP 3.73's installed by a Performance Ford Dealer and they did an excellent job, naturally. If you have a PFD nearby, have them do the install, you won't be disappointed and the cost is reasonable and competitive.
whats with everyone and the 4.10 gears? i dunno much about gears but isnt that a lil much for a street car? wouldn't that pretty much eliminate 1st gear? plz shed some light.

The deal with 4.10s is you car is a lot quicker. And more fun.
1st gear with 4.10s is RIPPING quick.
I LOVE mine. If I could I would marry them.

yea but with the 410's wont you shift a lot?...i mean you roll a few mph in first and then slam it into second and your flying....fun...EXTREMELY...but gas being $3.15....and the extra shifts....would i be better to stick with the 373's or be a big boy and get 410....or might that be a little much?

I also once thought the 4.10s would be too short. They are not. They are too fun.

I talked to a guy with 4.10:1 gears and he said he was getting about 14 on the highway drivng about 75-80. With the 3.55:1 i'm getting 23-24....do you really think this is true?? about a 10 mpg drop?
