I have a Diablosport Predator, i got off ebay for a sweet deal. (Yes its unlocked) $192 to be exact, I couldnt pass it up.
So now, im looking for a CAI and a good company to buy it from.
I originally was gonna buy a package deal of the CAI and Tuner but the tuner from ebay was so cheap i couldnt pass. My main concern i guess is getting a decent tune with the CAI. Ya , ya i know I should get a custom one, but Id like to atleast get one " thats pretty damn close" for when i put the CAI on for the time being.

Brenspeed, Evolution Performance, and Bamachips are pretty much the consesus for great tunes.

WOW, that's a $64 question. You'll get as many replies and opinions to this question as there are members of this site. I personally have the Ti (Tunable Induction) CAI with a SCT X-Cal 2, customed dyno tune (93 octane). I did lots of asking questions, then asking more questions from members of this site and after all the research, still was unsure which way to go. The piece of info. that was important to me was, added gains and reliability. What I found out was most CAI's are similar in those area's, but what made the biggest difference was a CAI with a damn good tune. Both must play an equal part, no one item will give you the ultimate results you're seeking. Consider the construction of the CAI, does it deter as much engine heat as possible along with drawing air from an area of the engine compartment that supports cooler air? A few items to consider. I'm not going to tell you the Ti CAI is the better CAI, but I will tell you I'm very happy with it and have had no reservations since getting it. It, along with the custom dyno tune (93 octane) from MD Motorsports ~ Cincinnati, OH, gave me an increase of 27 rwhp over stock....that's about as good as you'll ever get from just a CAI & Tune alone. Many AFM members will tell you their decisions were based on many factors, cost, looks, reliability and customer service from whom they bought from (this is always a biggy). If you ask the maker of Ti, JP DeMolet, he'll tell you alot about CAI's and what to look for and what to look out for. He'll also tell you, his product is one of the best and many of us Ti owners will not argue that fact. But remember, we're biased and the owners of other CAI's are as well. See my quote for a better explanation of that statement. Good Luck and remember, what ever you get, it's what you wanted and no one can ever fault you on that, most of all....you.
One thing I got to thinking about was the tune itself.
I know when you buy a combo you get the tune put on the tuner.
However I have a Diablsport already and need just the CAI, and the tune itself. Hoping to buy a CAI and a tune i can use on my Diablo thats better than the generic ones on my tuner.
More than likely you'll have to send in the handheld tuner to the company, once you decide on who to buy the tune and CAI from, so they can load a tune, to your specification, into it. Don't know if they'll sell yoiu atune to be downloaded over the computer, but they might. Evolution and Brenspeed I believe may do that for you. Check with JP DeMolet (Ti) and see if he can suggest how to load a tune into a 3rd party handheld. There's some technical stuff that will be needed I'm sure in order to do it and that's way out of my league.
Though many CAI's are sold in combination with SCT flashers, some good ones use Diablosport. C&L builds an excellent CAI that they tune with a Diablo. I have dealt with them before and found them very accomodating. Since you already have the flasher I'm sure they'd have no problem selling you a tune for it to go with their CAI system.

If you like your MD tune now, you should try a tune from Bamachips. The throttle response is much crisper.

Thnks for the info. but to be perfectly honest, the tune that Ken did for me at MD is pretty good. He also adjusted the shifting limits and she barks in 2nd & 3rd and chirps 4th...the g's are impressive. Ken has a pretty stedfast rule in that he will never tune a car to it's maximum...he likes to play it consertative as others have mentioned as well. I appreciate his approach on this and truly believe he takes a very personal approach to all his tunes, heck his and the shops reputation are at stake. I'm sure and have read that there are some other tunes, i.e. BamaChips for one, that may offer a little more in the rwhp, etc with their tune, but is that tune at the limits, possibly endangering the engine. I'll be looking in other places for additional rwhp, and leave the tune I got from MD as it is.

The main difference I found between the Bamatune and the one from MD was at low speed and part throttle such as when leaving a stoplight, ie. the sort of driving most of us do 99% of the time. This is not an area of engine operation where damage could occur unless the timing were so far advanced that you got spark knock . In normal stop and go driving the tunes from MD and SCT make the car feel as though the e-brake is on compared to the Bamatune. I tried literally for months to get a response from MD after I paid them for my CAI/Excalibrator until finally John DeMolet interceded and sent me the kit directly. Eventually MD did send me a couple of tunes, one for 87 octane and another for 93 octane after I of course indicated that I was using 91 octane fuel. Though he said he'd send me a 91 octane tune he never did. As far as peak horsepower I have no idea. You'd need a dyno to measure it. But for quicker acceleration with less throttle movement and making the car feel lighter and more responsive, the difference with the Bamatune was apparent in the first 100 feet out of my driveway.
