I have a guy who is powdercoating my valve covers, but before he does he needs to remove the PVC tube in the valve cover. He says that it's plastic and he's afraid it will melt while the powdercoat cures. Does anyone in here have the magic trick for removing it?
Here's a sample of the color he's using.... pretty close to the Redfire accents I have on my plenum cover I think.

Can't help you there, but the rear diff. cover and the powder coated nuts are the balls
Im a little confused on the exact part your needing to be removed.
Is is black? If so there should be a breen clip around it that you push in then pull the tube off. If its that small silver stem coming from the cover, thats part of the cover, not coming off, not going to melt.

The part he is referring too is the green part in the attached photo. If it won't melt at 450, then we're GTG.
I've seen several cam covers powder coated and baked with that rubber piece in there. None of those melted, they looked just a tad greyer, but were fine. Not sure what the temp used was though.
One guy pulled his green gasket thing out, and cut it with a razer blade to get it off the tube, then reinstalled it after they were baked. That seemed to work fine too.
Thanks for all the replies. I believe that the guy finally decided to leave the PVC part in and bake them anyway. Here are a few shots of the final results. I'm thinking I'm gonna really like the way they dress up the engine bay. I think it matches the plenum cover accents pretty well!
hey!!! thats the red color i been wanting to use!!! Looks good!!! im planning on doing mine in about 2 weeks. friend of mine has a powdercoat system. can you tell me the name of the color? did he get it from Eastwood?
