The last couple of times I filled up with 93 premium and used the 93 octane tune from evoloution I had some major pinging. Granted, it is hot here in the Chicago area but I suspect the Gas stations are just putting 87 octane in all of the pumps to make more money. Anyone else feel this way? I had to go out and get the Lucas Oil Octane boost from the parts store to help out.

Where do you fuel? I hope you use Shell, BP etc. Speedway and those use much more Ethanol, other alcohols and chemicals than the 'classic'/expensive stations... I read an article somplace where they compaired Shell and Speedway 89 and found that Speedway had almost the legal limit of 18% aditatives, Shell had less than 5%...

Make money? They made 10 billion this last 1/4 alone...they don't need to scam us cuz they are already scamming us with these BS high prices.

The Big Oil is making the big bucks, the Gas Stations dont make much on gas, if not at all. I know someone who owns a gas station and they sell their gas at .02 cents profit per gallon, and sometimes at a loss just to bring in more customers. Here in NV, as you all know there are Slots and Video Poker everyware, so this is the main money maker for Gas Stations with Gaming, the mini mart makes good money also, especially on specialty items like soda and candy ..etc..
I know the state checks the pumps and makes sure they comply with all the regulations, i know if they get caught gouging or selling Premium that is not Premium....they will loose their licence and cannot operate anymore...so that is a big risk for them...but i dont doubt some are just greedy. I always use Chevron for my Stang and had good luck with that gas....

i work at a shop and the gas pumps out front that my boss' father owns are mobile pumps. he complains every day about gas prices. the market went down 7 cents on wed and mobile went up 3.5 cents. the gas companies charge whatever they want. my boss only makes 3 cents on a gallon. and when its a charge card...he makes just over a cent because of card fees. i feel its more the big ppl screwing us...not the guys at the pumps

I don't remember what station it was but I witnessed the tanker driver unloading 87. Once the tank filled up he opened up the 91 and resumed filling. He looked at me and said hey, the truck needs to be emptied.

Shell, Chevron/Texaco, Exxon/Mobil, Marathon/Speedway, and Amoco get there product from Iraqi oil. Citgo, Sunoco, Conoco, Sinclair, BP/Phillips, nbsp/Hess, Arco, use American oil. Most of the American stuff has 10% Ethanol. Sorry to say but I say screw the Iraqi oil companies and boycot them. Do we all really need that 5-10 horse from fuel without Ethanol or do we want to support the middle east? LOL... lets see who can play nice with this one...

The power is one thing but ethanol, and other alcohols burn hotter and is more prone to pinging, in addition they leave kinda like a burnt recidue (sugger like) on your plugs, valves etc. That's my beef...

I thought some states have to use a Mix for emmision purposes. I know CA use to use MTBE, but they now use Ethanol because MTBE was very bad to the environment. I know here in Las Vegas, we get most of our gas from a pipeline that connects to points in Sothern California. Some gas is trucked in from Utah and that is very limmited to independants. BTW, i thought CITGO was the Venenzuelan Oil Company?

It's always good, to keep some octane boost, in the car just in case
A. I have been told there is no such thing as octane boosters other than adding some race gas etc.?
B. Ford, Saleen, Roush, will void your warranty if the find residue from additives in your gas!

Additives? how about the additives they put in the gasoline itself? or you talking about fuel injector cleaners?

The one I heard of was a guy who put octane booster in his Rouch SCed car because it was pinging. He of course brought it in for service admited to this and they said something like 'well pall, there went your warranty'...
I got currious and asked a buddy (Ford mech/mgr) and he said well yes, if it's not done here or recommended by Ford they have the right to PROVE that caused/was part of the damage...???
