Question Do Hood Pin straps mar the finish?

I am considering hood pins on my 06 GT but am concerned about the coated straps marring the paint or clearcoat on the leading edge of the hood. It would seem to me that since the straps are so close to the edge of the hood that under high speeds they would come in contact with the finish and rub. Any problems with this occuring?

I'm sorry, but I thought you had a Viper that's seen track use. Hood pins hold the hood down so it doesn't go airborne and "mar the finish"!!

It seems to me that anything that touches your paint could make it worse than if it didn't

I just bought these http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-home.html. I wouldn't think they could do any damage to your paint and that's why I bought them.

Can't wait to get them installed.

Boss, LOL!

The ones I have seen had some nylon coating on the wire. The wire (on older systems) is also pretty smooth and I'd think you'd have to go VERY fast to get some rubbing going... of course if you have a habbit of laying the ladies on the hood you might wanna aim between the pins...

I remembered this thread at MD today and was eye balling all the cars there (mostly race cars with pins) and none had any visible damage to the leading edge of the hood...

My Viper that I road race does not use hood pins but has four side clips for quick removal of the hood. It has also seen a lot of body damage from contact and I dont care about the paint finish. I am asking about hood pins for my Mustang that sees little track use in comparison.

If you are concerned about maring the finish, use the ones that you have to use a key to unlock. No cables. I had them (w/coated cables) on my '71 Camaro and never had a problem even after new paint and stripes. I am putting the FRPP ones on my '05 GT when I get my new hood installed. I will wait till the paint cures though or just leave the cables off for now.

However....anything that rubs a body part will eventually create a mark. It may take years....

I bought the CDC hood pin appearance kit - the eye pins are just connected to the hood using 3M tape. I drilled holes on the underside of the hood to connect the straps (was afraid some idiot sometime might try to pop the hood without unhooking them). Anyway, the lanyards and pins are stainless steel and the lanyards have a plastic coating. I've had them on since mid-April and NO marks. They are a good quality item.....
