Default Saleen Blower and 06 GT...tuning prob.

Ok so my car is in the shop getting a new saleen blower installed and I get a call from the shop and they tell me that they just can't tune it, that its running too lean. So they sent my computer to Saleen to get a base tune installed and my car went from we'll have it in a couple of days to give us a call in about a week or so. Is any one having any similar problems with the 06 model and the Saleen blower?

Sounds like a cawkup if you ask me.
No way you should need to do that.

I'd call JDM Engineering, they have Saleen tunes in a handheld to go for any and every tranny and use be it drag, street or mileage.

If you just use the Saleen program in you 'puter, you will still not be able to tweak it without a handheld program.

Well they use the Diablo Sport tuner to do their adjustments, but according to them its "a problem with the computer" and so they probably want Saleen to save their @sses. They run a shop with a very good rep though, so I guess I have no choice but to wait and see. The kick in the nutz is that I was planning on waiting for the new whipple to come out.

Is the Saleen still coming without injectors? There is no way to put on a good safe tune without 39 lb injectors! And then with those you can get a safe tune but not max before you add some fuel from the tank with another pump or BAP, I recomend a BAP.

I have seen the above first hand!

Ken is one of the best and best known mod tuners around;

Here is more info than you need but it is a prtty cool give and take between one of SCTs and one of Diablos top guys... think SCT won, again!!

Sounds to me they don't know what they are doing with the 05+ cars. I had the same problem with the shop (DPR) that installed my Saleen. The tune was good, but after learning more about these cars, the tune my have not been safe. But the biggest problem was they couldn't tune the auto trans shift points. They had my car for a month! I told them about JDM and JDM was trying to help them. They gave up on DPR cause they didn't think they knew what they were doing. So I dealt with JDM, the first tune the shifting points were still too hard. Second time the tune wouldn't load, so I gave up on them. Took the computer out of the car and drove to Saleen to have it re-flash. Everything was good them, except the saleen tune runs lean. I found a tuner 120 miles away (ST Motorsports, CA) and he was able to tune the car and the auto trans. He took my HP from 328hp to 354hp/350tq. Since then I've changed the saleen pulley and now have 410hp. He's working on my car again.
JDM, tried to help and I'm not saying anything bad about them. At the time it didn't work out for me and I don't like to wait for anything. A lot of people are having good luck with JDM and they know a lot about these cars. If I had to buy a mail order tune, then I would have to go with JDM first.

1. Since your tuner is going the use the Saleen tune, I would ask for a discount on the tune since they are not doing it.

2. Find another tune who knows what they are doing with these cars.

3. If you have to drive a long way, do it. I drive 120 miles one way to see Adam at ST Motorsports. This guy just got his car tune and here is what he said in another forum "ST Motorsports has earned a lifetime customer out of me! I drove 864 miles round trip just to have them work on my car, and I would gladly drive twice that for this quality of service! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that anyone in the South West take the drive down to San Bernardino, CA to have the magic touch applied to your S197".

4. PM sent.

Struggled long with the same problem until I finally decided to give JDM a try. I was not big on mail order tunes, but JDM delivered. I had two tuners in the area(one very recent) give it a shot and neither of the tunes even sniffed JDM's. I would highly recommend them and there customer service. You can buy there tunes+ the necessary fuel upgrades as well. It has been said many times before, you will not be happy with Saleen's tune.

Sounds like you should post up the name of the shop you've been dealing w/ so everyone knows where NOT to go.

Give HPP racing a call. They just moved from Houston up here to lewisville (972) 395-9844, but I think they've still got folks down there. The've tuned dozens of Saleen's on 3V's by now.

I learned the hard way too...

The Diablo Predator can not tune a Saleen Supercharger...

That's why I had to buy a SCT-2...

Then I loaded the stock Saleen Supercharger tune into the SCT-2 and sent the tuner to JDM for their "street/strip tune"...

The tuner came back to me in about 3 or 4 days...

Loaded it and I've been happy ever since...

Talk to Jim Jr. about your situation and he will help you too!!!

I have to disagree with you that the Diablo Predator can't tune a Saleen S/C. My 05 GT with the a Saleen S/C is tuned with the Diablo Predator. It depends on your tuner and what he can do. Most tuners know the SCT better. My tuner (Adam w/ST Motorsports) uses both the SCT and Diablo. I use to have SCT and I ended up selling it.
When it comes down to which is better, that depends on what your tuner knows and doesn't know. It's all in the tune.
Here's some video's of my car racing and tuned with Diablo.

I think the problem with many of the tuners unfamiliar with the S197 + Saleen TS was that they were unable to unlock Saleen's tune with the Diablo once the computer was flashed by Saleen. I think they have rectified that problem to date as I ran into the same scenario earlier this year. As far as the Saleen goes it seems that Adam @ ST Motorsports certainly has had wide success with both the Saleen and KB and JDM I believe has over 70 vehicles running around on there tunes now for the Saleen. Either would be a good choice. Adam gets wide acclaim ( I have never dealt with him) for customer service and JDM is excellent and always willing to help with questions. Disco is right, if you call JDM ask for Jim jr. and he will help you.

MSgt46270,

Not to "pee" on the Diable Parade but -- my tuner was a Diablosport Chipmaster Revolution Custom Tuning dealer...

He even went a far as to call Diablo directly by telephone regarding the tuning on my 2005 Mustang GT with a Saleen Supercharger...

Guess What??? NO LUCK... Saleen locks their factory tune so that Diablo can not tap into it...

Adam may have a secret solution, but here in the Midwest, YOU CAN NOT TUNE A SALEEN SUPERCHARGER WITH A DIABLO TUNER!!!

Thank You, Dave

Well I finally got my car back. After waiting an eternity for my computer to be shipped back they finally installed it and tuned it today. I don't know how this guy did it but he is a strictly Diablo tuner and the was able to tweak the Saleen tune. Im running 406 at the wheels and according to him, as the blower breaks in it will work better . Does any body know if there is any truth to this?? I also contacted JDM and wow!!! They wanted to take me for a ride.....In order to use their tune I had to buy the MAF...39# injectors...CAI....a different pully...and pay for the reflash. That was over $1000, the thing that I did learn was that every shop has a different approach to modding the new stang. For now I am extremely happy with my car and plan to keep it this way for a while. (while I gather some more $$$$ anyway) Thanks to every one who helped out or gave their opinions, I still have alot to learn but hey you have to start somewhere right?

Your problem is that you need to re-flash the car back to the stock tune (factory tune that is). If you tune the car with SCT and then try to tune the car with Diablo, it won't work. I have also seen this first hand on my car. I had my car tuned with SCT and then went to Diablo, the diablo programmer wouldn't work. Adam and I took the car to Ford and had it re-flash and everything was fine after that. Not to rain on your tuner, but a good tuner would had figured that out. Saleen locks their factory tune so that Diablo can not tap into it... WRONG!!!! My 05 mustang GT with a Saleen S/C is tuned with Diablo.
I will bet you $50 that you can tune your 05 mustang with the Saleen S/C with Diablo if you get it re-flash from Ford first.
[Edit, kj]
Let me/ us know if you re-flash your car from Ford and get the Diablo to work.
