I really do love the Borla s-types I have and they sound is great, not so loud to annoy but loud enough to enjoy, even on long trips. I put on the Kooks LT headers with X-pipe and high flow cats. I'm about to take the cats off and am expecting about 5 to 10% volume increase, we shall see.
The other comment is about the AT by Flowmaster. Since it is a chamber muffler and chambers restrict airflow would you not actually loose HP compared to a muffler that you can look at the back and see out the front? Seems to make sense. Less restriction the better... Just never seen any dyno info the American Thunder mufflers to show gain. Any comments?

I read about the X-pipes a lot on these forums, and I rarely hear anything about aftermarket H-pipes. From what I have heard, the X-pipes have a higher pitched, raspier tone than H-pipes, but will give you a few extra horses.
I would much rather go with a deeper sound and less a few horses (aren't we probably only talking something like 1-3?) then have something that could be considered "higher pitched". Why does everyone seem to go with the X-pipes?
How exactly will adding a hi-flow catted X or H pipe to my Bassani axle-back change the sound? Will it make it deeper? How much louder will it make it? How does it effect drone?
If it will make it a lot louder, I would almost rather just go with the Borla axleback.
I am not interested in an off-road midpipe as I have heard these are considerably louder and I want to be able to pass emissions.
Higher pitched? i'm not sure what exactly that sounds like....but to me a higher pitched sound comes from Fart Can Hondas. My Bassani is very deep and at WOT it ROARS, just sounds awesome! I love the way it sounds under an overpass or tunnel!

I have read the same thing on a little of different forums, that x-pipes offer more performance (a few horses) than h-pipes, but do no sound as good (higher pitched, raspy, and "funny" are all words I have heard used to describe it).
That is why I am so suprised that it seems like 9 out of 10 people that get a mid-pipe go with an X. I don't really race my car, so 2 extra horses aren't going to help me much, on the other hand, everyone, including me, is going to hear my exhaust constantly, so I am thinking I would rather go with the better sound.
Anyone here with a Bassani and H-pipe combo that can tell me the difference the mid-pipe makes in the sound?
Not sure I am getting rid of them yet, looking at some mid-pipe options. Sounds like the Mac Catted Prochamber can make the car sound deeper without a lot of extra volume, any have any experience with that?
