Question Aftermarket oil gauge installation

Someone must have installed their own oil tempature and oil pressure gauges.

Where and how did you place the sending units for each of those gauges?

Right near the oil filter you'll see the factory sending unit with one gray wire coming out of it. What I did for my electric oil pressure gauge was remove that sending unit and ground the wire. Some people use a 'T' so the stock "gauge" will still show some semblance of functionality. Grounding the wire fools the computer, and I've been running mine that way for well over a year with no issues. The stock "gauge" is junk - period. Any way, if you're running a mechanical gauge, use braided stainless tubing, not the small capillary plastic tubing. The gauge will have an adapter that will thread into the block where the factory sending unit was, and it goes there. Then thread the braided line into the adapter, fish the line through the firewall and connect it to your gauge.
If you have an electric gauge, you might have enough room to put the new sending unit in the place where the stock one was. I did not, so I had to use a section of braided line to remote mount the sending unit. Then run wires to the gauge inside the car.

For an oil temp gauge, never done that so I can't help.

Good luck!

Yeah, like he said. I left my "idiot light" sender in by using a tee. To run both temp and pressure gauges, you could get a tee run some braided line to the fender well and using another tee mount the senders.

These are electric sending units I am thinking of using. I want to play it safe to avoid any possible leaks in the cockpit.

So a braided line will get the oil to a place where the sending unit can be located. However, using a braided line for the oil temperature sending unit will allow cooling and give an inaccurate reading won't it?

Check the 05 forum on www.modularfords.com - I think a few folks over there have put in oil temp gauges

I've checked modularfords forum, found some threads, the oil pressure sending unit belongs at the oil filter fitting, but I still am uncertain where the best place is for the oil temp sending unit.
