issues with the original factory installed battery
I've got 15,000 miles on the car, and this am I went out to start it and it hesitated a second b4 starting. I took it over to Checker Auto Parts and they tested the battery. It had 332/500 cranks left and the alternator is fully charging. Do you think that's normal to only have 332 cranks left after only one year? It's always garaged. I live in Las Vegas where the summer temps reach 105-110 sometimes. My garage could reach around 95-100 degrees during the day.
Its known that the heat kills batteries...mine is fine so far, but i've had batteries fail early in my work truck cause of the heat. Have the dealer replace it under warranty.

Are the electrical engineers at Checker claiming that you only have that many cranking cycles left?? I think what they are probably telling you is that your battery is now providing that many cranking amps of capacity. If that's the case, the battery is probably OK. I've never heard of a battery rated in number of cranks left. I'd check for loose connections to the starter (have the dealer do it, warranty etc.)

Like the Hawgman said...it is well documented that the stock battery is crap. I know mine was after only 7 months. Have heard of alternator issues traced back to these batteries. Hell 330 cca is barely enough to start my lawnmower lol.

There has been some issues with people who have the Shaker stereo systems. If you don't use your car very often and let it set for a week or two, there is a little draw coming from the Shaker. The power going to the amps is drawing enough to kill a battery in that time period. The suggested remedy for this is to replace the Shaker with an aftermarket head unit. I did this and haven't had a problem since.
5twenty how do you have 67k on your baby already that is crazy
Is it crazy....or is it incredibly sane? I had the first S197 in Washington, delivered almost two years ago today (10/24/04). I cannot stop driving it. I race it, I drive it, I beat the heck out of it and she keeps asking for more. I've been known to drive 200 miles for a cheeseburger. Not because I want the cheeseburger, because I want to drive the 'Stang.
Not only do I have all those miles, I have 700+ quarter mile passes at the drag strip. I'd have a ton more except the strips close around here at the end of October, mid-September at the latest. Now that the strips are closed she'll get a winter full of loving care to get her ready for next February when the track opens up again.
You guys who don't drive in the rain or put your car away for the winter crack me up. This is the coolest car going and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to drive it all the time.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Was he just using a handeld device? or an actual VAT machine on wheels?
I aggree the factory batteries mostly are crap, but 7 months seems way to early to have a bad battery, but anything is possible.
