I think I do have the active alarm upgrade...it comes with the IUP, correct..I am 99% sure I have it. You do have to disable the factory alarm..it has a connection for that, and I was going to install it myself but after reading through the 100 pages of instructions, I am not satisfied that I have the electrical knowedge to do this properly, so I am going to pay a guy that used to work for circuit city installers to do it for me, I think.

had a remote start on a manual bronco 2 with an override switch for the clutch sensor. once sent it thru a buddy's garage door, had to replace it, once sent it thru a library parking lot over a 3 foot drop off thru some pine trees, a back yard and tagged a tree. DON' T DO IT

Not just an override...this checks that car is in neutral and parking brake is one, then you have to do the ignition sequence to arm it. I think it sounds fairly idiot proof.

I think the active alarm is a separate upgrade. Easy to tell...do you have the motion sensors next to your interior lights? if so, that is part of the alarm upgrade (anyone correct me if I am mistaken). I am pretty competent with electrical installs, so that doesn't scare me much. Would be great if you or your friend takes pics during the install though!

It does has the active alarm upgrade, just checked the sticker. And in order to arm the remote start, the hwole routine is...put car in neutral, set brake, push button on floor and turn ignition off, on, off and pull the key out. The car will run for 30 seconds, during which time you have to lock the doors with the FOB, then the car will turn off. If anyone wants to volunteer to stand by on Instant Messenger I wold attempt to do it myself...I just have too many questions to attempt this alone

I live in Canada and have had remote starters specifically designed for manual transmission cars in mine for the last 12 years. They are 100% safe.

The parking brake is connected to the remote starter as well as all the door switches or dome light.

The way it works is as follows.

When you park the car you must leave it running and apply the handbrake. You must press on the remote start button which keeps the car running. you remove your ignition key and everyone exits the vehicle while the car continues to run. This proves that the car is in neutral. once you close all the doors you press the start button again. This in turn shuts off the engine and the remote start is now enabled. If at any time any door is opened without the car running the remote start will be disabled since someone can slip it into gear. If you want to retrieve something from your car while keeping the remote start enabled you must start it from the remote. enter the vehicle and get whatever you want. Close the doors once again and hit the start button which will once again kill the engine and put it in ready mode.
