anybody changed from a Saleen shift adaptor to Hurst shifter
I've had the Saleen short shift adaptor in my car for a few months & I like it a lot better than stock.
I used to miss 2nd to 3rd stock & I never miss it now. The throw is so short a couple of times I've shifted from 1st to 2nd quicker than my foot mashes the clutch.
I was wondering how the Saleen adaptor compares to the complete Hurst shifter kit. I think the Hurst shifter is a little taller and I think that would help make it a little easier. Do they feel about the same or is the Hurst better?
Well, I have never had the Saleen adapter, but I love my Hurst shifter. I opted for the T-handle which has taken some time to get used to, but I still miss 3rd sometimes. I need it shorter LOL
I think I am goign to try to add the saleen adapter to my Hurst ans see how that goes. Though, I had an 05 with the Hurst in it, then when I test drove the 06 I have now I found myslef searchign for gears. It is by far better than stock... I think I have just readjusted and want it shorter now.

Yeah i did the adaptor for 4 months, then installed the Hurst shifter in chrome with the white ball, looks very retro. It shifts alot better, never missed a shift, yes it has a short notchy throw. The only draw back is the two screws that hold the chrome shifter under the boot come loose once in a while, especially at drag strip,i pull so hard from 1st - 2nd.I also have been using the T handle for the last 6 months,it is good as well.
No comparison the Hurst is 100% better. The problem with the adaptor is it still uses the soft bushings. The Hurst has harder bushings and takes a little while to get use to but it's much better

I had the same problem: use Threadlocker, and tighten to 35lbft.
I found that my screws were loose earlier this week, so I did this, and so far so good, I let it dry overnight, so all should be good. It has only been a week, but so far, so good, by the way, others on the forum have used this solution as well as getting 2 nuts for the ends; just do not overtighten!!
How could you possible say the hurst is 100% better...lol
Here is the facts from a guy who has had the Hurst, Tri-Ax, Pro 5.0 and now a BMR Ratchet shifter in his car...
The Hurst is a joke performance wise pure and simple. If you take a Hurst and stick it next to your stock shifter, they are identical in just about every way. You have no stop adjustments available to you just like on your stocker. Having said that, the Hurst is the best 'looking' shifter and if you don't need performance and just want that retro look, then it is a good shifter for you.
Now if you don't care about looks and just want shorter shifts and a decrease in chance in missing that dreaded 1-2 and 2-3 shift, then the saleen adapter is hands down the best bang for the buck. You will get a nearly identical feel to the hurst with the saleen adapter. The ONLY difference is the hurst will have a slightly less throw (about 8% less than the saleen adapter)
The Pro 5.0 or Tri-Ax is the hands down way to go for optimal performance and both give you a full range of stop adjustment and are 100% better constructed, stronger and a must have mod for the track enthusiast. 1st and reverse will be a little sluggish and tight on the 5.0 and tri-ax, but the gears that matter will melt in like butter when you need them too.
With either of these shifters - if you are pushing some torque, I also highly recommend the CHE Performance Engine torque limiters and K-Arm brace. It's not very expensive and it will keep your tranny planted during WOT shifts when the tranny tends to want to shift slightly. It's overkill if you are mostly a street driver, but if you hit the tracks often, it is a decent mod to consider.
I know lot's of hurst guys will want to chime in on how radical their shifter is..lol But please refrain, I'm not bagging on the hurst - just giving the facts. I admit it is a great looking shifter and most guys are only interested in looks and a shorter throw feel on the street. I'm just a track junkie so my info will always revolve around the best in performance. Just to give you an idea, I don't know of a single manual driver who is breaking 11's that uses the hurst shifter???
Bottom line to the orginal post - keep your adapter.

Please enlighten me exactly how it is 100% better??? What engineering differences are there? The hurst bushings are a little harder than stock but that is only to aid the short throw. The bushings have nothing to do with the smoothness of the shifts. That is controlled by the stop bolt adjustment which the hurst has none.

Did you have the saleen adaptor and did you change it to the hurst? I did and in MY opinion the hurst is 100% better. Of course I am not a track junkie and drive MY car for pleasure. If I was trying to get into the low 10's I probably wouldn't use the Hurst. You have your opinion and that's fine but don't slam people for having a different one

The Hurst doesn't have stops because it doesn't need them. Thsi topic has been beat to deat, but plain and simple, the new GT 5-speed tranny has internal stops. The shorter shift distance comes from changing the pivot point of the lever... the adapter does the same thing by extending the bottom of the shift leaver thus inceasing the trave distance of the end moving the shift forks for a given movement of the ball end.
We have a remote mounted shifter... the bushing therfore have a lot to do with the rigidity of the mount and keeps the shifter assembly more stable while you are jerking on it.

How was he slamming anyone? I thought his post was extremely informative. He said nothing to "slam" anyone else. You're a street driver and like the Hurst which he said in his post. Now if you were a track junkie then you would probably opt for the Tri-ax or Pro 5.0. I will personally get the Hurst because I like the look and am just looking for a shorter throw and it is cheaper than the Pro 5.0

Wait, so this guy is saying that the Hurst is only good for looks, then says that performance-wise the Saleen adaptor is your best bang for your buck while stating that it is exactly the same as the Hurst but with about 8% longer throw? That makes no sense at all!
I've had both the Saleen adapter and now the Hurst. The Saleen adapter was much better than stock but the Hurst is that much better than the adapter. While the Saleen shortened the throw of the stock shifter it retains the feel of the stock shifter as well. The Hurst just feels so positive and so tight. The extra length in the shift lever seems to give more leverage to get into gear. The Hurst geometry is very similar but it is not the same as stock with a Saleen adapter and any change in the goemetry changes the way the shifter will works and feels.

While we ware on the Saleen shifter subject. I have a Roush short throw shifter the rattle is driving me nuts, dealer did a couple of things .. no change they called Roush I called Roush like talking to the government so me and Roush are done. Is this Saleen you mention here a short throw like the Roush? Does it feel the same? Is the throw distance the same? Thanks for any advise you can give. I was thinking Saleen becaus most of my mods are from them so far and I have no complaints.
