Couple of things. If the engine is lifted too high, the header could be binding against the bottom of the car, and prevent you from moving the header. Make sure the gasket isn't covering the holes.

That worked like a charm. Thanks to all those who gave me ideas on what to do. Once that dipstick came out of the way it was an easy install all the way. There is something to say about working on your own mustang, it feeels good. Headers were a great idea, the power gain is immediately noticeable. Best mod I've done so far. To have the whole system borla is sweet, the sound is great! Its a real deep throaty tone. I turn my car on just to listen to it idle now. (But I have to turn it off to use my cell phone). Would highly recommend to anyone else.

Tips for anyone installing headers:
1. Even though you may be anxious to get the install started make sure you clean your garage floor if you plan on doing it yourself
2. If you remove the dipstick (not just unbolt it but completely remove it) and motor mounts from the get go, it makes life so much happier
3. The time spent to remove the battery and box is well worth it
4. If you have pets make sure they stay away from the car while you do the install cause they knock $hiT over or get stuck in really odd places
5. Patience is a virtue, if you get stuck just walk away for a bit, maybe get on this forum and take a break, it'll make sense when you go back
6. Bottle jacks come in handy when lifting the engine
7. Make sure you buy O2 extensions!!!!!!

When the install is over enjoy your craftsmanship and tear it up

Again thanks to everybody for their help

I guess there was some confusion on the dipstick tube needing to come all the way out. Maybe I wasn't clear enough on that. Still, glad you got her all bolted back together.

I got a cat stuck on my driveshaft once in a parking lot. I didn't know he was there. Lucky for him, some kids saw him climb up in there before I took off. That would have been messy.

stlwagon - Thanks for all your help, i just sometimes have a comprehension problem. When the other guys said tug at the base I did and it worked. But your suggestion on getting all those bolts back in worked perfectly.

This was the most difficult install I ever did, but it was worth it. I don't think I'd do it again though, once is enough.

I duno why but my cat went to the same place, I guess it just must be a comfortable area.

Scrapped knuckles on the hands which aren't too bad. Its mostly my arm that have scrapes and cuts, if someone were to see them it might look like i cut them just for fun. But my whole body was sore just being on a cement floor for so long.

Hi I just wanted to say thanks again for helping me with all the header questions. I'm starting to learn a lot from this site.

If you wouldn't mind could I ask one more question?
I read all the threads about having the car tuned after installing long tubes. I do have an XcalII that I bought with my catback system that had three tunes on it. An 87, 91, 93 octane tunes. I purchased it from mrt-direct. I emailed them inquiring about a retune for LTs and the guy there said it didn't have to be and I could just use what was already on there. Is that right? or should I try getting in touch with somebody else to get that sorted out? If this just seems like another redundant question sorry to bother.

Technically yes but the LTs are likely going to cause you to run somewhat lean so it really needs to be compensated for. I've not heard of any custom tuner out there that doesn't account for the addition of LT headers. My car ran horribly until I threw on a new tune.

Its been a couple days and I thought I'd chime in to let everybody know how the new headers are.

First off, UNFREAKIN BELIEVABLE! Driving this car was already fun but it just makes this so much more enjoyable. I threw on just the basic 87 octane tune from MRT Racing. The drone I use to have with the Borla axlebacks are gone. The sound is not too obnoxious but I did set off a couple car alarms at the garage I park at for work while backing out of my space. This was so worth it but I never want to install these myself again.

Down side - Louver rattler is getting really bad, I'll need to look for a way to get a quick fix.

These headers are a bit pricy but if you get a good deal on ebay like i did, I'd say get'em

Sounds like you're satisfied Are these rear window louvers that you're having problems with?

I don't have much knowledge of the Borla LTs. Kooks and JBA are two of the premier brands. ARH are good too. And I know I've been very satisfied with SLP.
