Default Borla Long tube headers

Hi - I just bought a set of Borla long tube headers on Ebay for my 06 GT thats a manual trans. I was just wondering during the install what am I supposed to torque the bolts of the drive shaft back too as well as the rack and pinion.

Has anybody installed the borla headers or seen any reviews on them?

There should be no need to drop the driveshaft on any LT header install. You may have to loosen the rack, disconnect the steering column, and remove the dipstick tube. That should be about it.

Why are you taking off the drive shaft and R & P? Is this what they tell you to do? The kooks LT, which I have and cannot be much different, you don't need to do this. It is easiest to install from under the car. Need to remove both motor mounts, one at a time, jack the engine up a little, dip stick, then slap those baby's in there. With a lift you should be able to get it done in 4 - 6 hours. On the passenger side I took my starter off thinking I would need to but this turned out not to be the case. Don't forget to re-torque your header bolts after a few thousand miles.

Yeah on the directions on their website it says to slide the rack and pinion forward and to drop the steering shaft. When I got the headers they didn't come with instructions but thats what I get buying off of ebay I guess. But can I put these headers on without touching the steering shaft at all?

You slide the rack forward in order to drop the steering column, not the drive shaft. Do not drop the driveshaft!

There's a lot in these instructions that looks like overkill--removing the battery, battery tray, air box, sparkplug wires. Unless the Borlas have serious clearance issues, I see no reason to remove any of these.

I noticed that you fixed that Your instructions are pretty thorough. Take a look at the instructions that came with my SLPs. Little simpler.

Thats seems reasonable and will save me time when I try to do this. Thanks.

I found that the 5 minutes it took to remove the battery and tray made it much easier to reach the O2 connector up on the engine on the passenger side and a few of the header bolts. Maybe not needed, but I did it both times.

The Kooks system is reported to not be a true LT, but rather a Mid Length.

There is a pretty good write up on here in the tech section that one of our members put up on installing the Kooks System. Lots of pictures included. I also made a few post concerning my experiences.

Do a search for Long Tubes inthe 2005+ GT Tech section and you should get a lot of info. Its not hard, but you should have a buddy around to help and patients.

I did not know that on the Kooks system. Is there any less power achieved with this "mid length" system?

Shouldn't be. It's all in the collector configuration and length.

No, they seem to be about the same. Mainly you see differences in whether you choose cats or no cats for the H or X pipe.

Hi Just an update, I finally got around to installing my headers and came across a snag. I was able to get the old system out completely but was having trouble getting the drive side header in place. The passenger side slid in like a dream. I raised the engine and removed the motormounts but when installing the drivers side header I keep running into the steering column and the dipstick tube. I need help if anybody knows how to remove either I would greatly appreciate it.

The bolts on the front of the rack are tight as hell and are almost impossible to remove.

I have no idea how to get the dipstick tube out of the way. Help!!!!

Remove the dipstick tube. Also sounds like you'll need to loosen the rack to disconnect the steering column. I'll see if I can find the instructions that came with my SLP headers. That should help. Give me 5.
