Are you saying there was no slip yoke????

Here is a link to the Powerhouse shaft. You can see the accordion cover of the slip yoke near the right side of the shaft.

if you can't pull the part out of the end of the trans there has to be a slip fit in the drive shaft some were or the shaft just bends and brake.is the drive shaft soild from front to back?in the pics it looks soild one peice no way to slip in and out.

I'm not one to sue people but this is a case of clear negligence if there is in fact no slip yoke.
I can't be 100% sure from the pic of the trans end but it's looking that way.
It will be nearly impossible to return the car to its original shape without replacing the complete floor.
The driveshaft safety loop will be going on my short list.

I have no idea whether it had a slip yoke, I didn't realize they were designed that way and it never occurred to me to take notice. Since it was designed with the 3" main shaft, and the thinner 1" end that goes to the transmission I would assume it had to have been built like that for the slip yoke?

Am I reading this correctly? You don't have a loop installed and you've been allowed to run that way at the track?? Especially into the 11s

A loop is required below 11.50 just like the roll cage I don't have.
The driveshaft was a last minute addition before the end of the season.
My friend ran an 11.25 in his GT500 vert without a cage.
A vert requires a cage below 13.50.

NHRA safety rules require a driveshaft safety loop on any vehicle running quicker than 13.99 on slicks or 13.00 on street tires.

As you can see it cracked the transmission wide open, the d/s appears to have broke at the yoke (I think its called - where the larger part of the d/s meets the smaller diameter portion that attaches to the transmission).

The tunnel was beat up enough that it bent both rails that the seats slide on so both seats have difficulty moving. We'll see tomorrow what a general estimate looks like.
What a violent hit , I never seen such a D/S torn up so much, along with the tranny splitting! Must of scared the heck out of you hearing all those violent crashes, bangs, slams etc.

some-one will be footing a BIG bill, thank the Lord that the D/S did not tear through the passanger compartment and injure you or the child, or the car flipping over.

It is bad, and glad you are all safe.

+1... An out of control spinning chunk of aluminum could have easily torn through the floor.

Think I am going to put some loops on my car, even though I am using the stock D/S in which I will stick with.

What loop(s) are recommended that can e installed without any drilling or lifting the interior carpet or trim?

Man, I feel bad this happened to him.

Well looking at the pics there is a slip at the trans end from what I can see. I have seen some twisted up d/s before.

A two piece d/s is one with two shafts. The slip is not considered a seperate or second piece.

I'm glad no one was hurt

I didn't get a good view of the front side of the driveshaft, but I'm assuming that if it is cracked on the end of it then it probably broke away from any weld and may not have beena a slip yoke... If it is smooth on the end then it failed at that point then it would have to have slipped out somehow and allowed the main piece to drop.

Here is a picture of the end of the side that connects to the transmission...

edit: It doesn't appear to be cracked...

What you are looking at is the slip yoke. Can you get a pic of the other end of the slip yoke and where it is welded to the shaft?

My CHE loop required some drilling but no carpeting removal.
