Question Window, Side and Hood Scoops durability

Hello again Everyone,

I am in the market to purchase some window scoops, side scoops, and maybe a Hood scoop and I notice that no matter where I look, everyone attaches them to their car via 3M Tape. How long will this adhesive last? Would I have to worry aboout going to fast and the scoops flying off? What has been you guys and girls experience with these products?

Thanks for all your input

It holds like steel and it won't come off unless you take it off. I removed my 3D Carbon hood scoop in January before I had my stripes painted. What a mother that was to get off!

Thank you very much for your continued response to all threads I create. You just gave me the confirmation I needed to make my purchase.

Here's another question for those of you with Window Scoops, how do you clean the windows if you have the slotted scoops? What fits through the slots and gets to the windows?

The Roush louvers are removable but I think they are the only ones that are. The others would be tough to clean. Mine are solid so I don't worry

Will it hold that well even in a very hot climate like Phoenix? I have had experience with a lot of adhesives turning soft in the Arizona sun. Would that ever be the case with this particular adhesive?

That 3M adhesive is amazing stuff. It'll hold.

I have the Roush hoodscoop and it uses more than just 3M tape. You have to drill the hood so the scoop is held down with 7 bolts and 3M tape. I was a little leary at first at drilling the hood, but it comes with a nice big template so you would have to be cross eyed to screw it up.
The Roush window scoops look really nice and are removable like stlwagon said, but I still haven't bought them since I think it might be a pain to remove them every time I want to clean the windows, plus the brackets the scoops screw into are held on with 3M tape so I would think continually removing and reinstalling those scoops would eventually break the tape bond. I also have a 3D carbon trunk black out panel that is held on with just 3M tape and if you've ever seen that piece up close, it's thick to fill up the depression back there (other brands are just a thin piece of plastic). The tape is rock solid even when you slam the trunk. I still have a CDC chin spoiler to install and it has screws on the ends, but 3M tape across the middle...I have no doubt that tape will hold at speed. That tape is some serious stuff.

I might just go with the ones www.silverhorseracing.com are selling that are flush mounted like the ones on the classic stangs 66/67 I believe. They look really good. They would be $288 painted for the Vista Blue ones. Someone on this site started a thread yesterday about the one they purchased and they look great.

Just remember, you have to remove your factory glass to install those.
If you're OK with that, then go for it!

If I went with those, I'd have an autoglass shop install them to ensure a leak-free fit.

I ordered a set from Silver Horse Racing yesterday for my wife's pony car...she complains too much about not being able to see out that window....lets see if its worth the new louvers

Of course, I will not be trying to install myself. I will definitely bring it to a professional.
