Default Review of Gibson Axle-Back Exhaust

I've just installed a Gibson axle-back exhaust on my '07 GT. To see a review of the process, complete with pics, look here:

Nice write up.

I have the SLP loudmouths, and I love them, but I suspect they would be too loud for you.

Maybe your ideal setup would be just some slip on exhast tips.

Yea, sorry you don't like it. They look awesome though!!

I really liked my stockers!! Even went back to them after trying MAC's (to loud with a terrible groan) and JBA (good level but high pitch.) Unfortionatel they were not made for 650 HP and one blew up...!! I'm back to the JBA's and am learning to like it.

What is the most quiet AM mufflers? I recall the JBA's being really mellow back when I was NA and before supercharger and longtubes to straight pipes...

Here is one of my JBA's: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photo...7/ppuser/18632 NOt the best angle, maybe here: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photo...6/ppuser/18632

Thanks for the responses. I should have known that an exhaust note that was sweet music to most GT owners' ears would be too loud for a 58-year-old minister. The plan now is to look for some different (larger) exhaust tips. Any recommendations before I start the search?

Thanx, KJ--I thought that I had seen them before but I just can't find them on their site even with a search. I'll keep looking
Edited later--found 'em on fordaccessories.com!

Before you go off in search of the 'droneless' axleback. There really aren't any. The rear placement of the mufflers is the biggest culprit with the S197. If we had mid-mounted mufflers and long tailpipes it would be far better.

I suspect you're right, and posts on this and other forums pretty much bear that out. I've had some luck on other vehicles with splicing a resonator into the system, but the stock exhaust sounds pretty darned good to me; I think I'll leave it in place and concentrate on other mods. I'm not looking for a 12-second street machine with this car

I added Dynomax resonators to the overaxle pipes and it really helped.

Out of curiosity, have you guys heard of anybody wrapping the straight section with header wrap? I wondered if it would help some of the drone without having to to weld in the resonators???

Hey Rev, the stock mufflers get a little louder and develop a little more burble with some mileage. I have about 30k on the car and a custom tune (which changes the tone also) and nobody believes that it's got the stock pipes

+1 on ultraclydes statement about the stockers getting louder with miles. Mine have certainly gotten louder the longer I have had the car. sounds really good now that I have 20,000 miles. I can't decide on an exhaust setup either because the stockers sound pretty good.

Wrapping the midpipe or the straight section of the overaxle pipe?

Not true. Corsa is 100% droneless. On an unrelated subject but pertinent to the car in question, I fail to see the attraction of a primer gray gas door in the middle of a beautiful redfire body panel.

I got quite a laugh when I read your comments about their service! It seems logical to shop around every time you need to buy a part. But, at least in my experience, every time I stray from Summit or Jegs, I end up kicking myself in the a** when I have to deal with the Other Guy's customer service. Good write up, all in all. It's a bummer you didn't like the aftermarket setup, though.
