After the 7th pull on the dyno, we got some nice clutch burn smell. Not pleasant to say the least. It looks like the stocker made it to 18.5k and now it is starting to cash in...
I am looking to hit 475-500 RWHP MAX and I mean max on the car. What clutch set-up would you recommend? This car is used on the street, not the track. I may see the strip 1-3 times this summer and that's it. Please let me know what you think and how much this will cost me.
Please inform me this is going to be fairly cheap - I am running out of funds!!!!
SA, It's won't be cheap. Most of the clutch's are in the $300-1500 Range depending on what you want.
CF DFX is around $300, Spec's are aorund $400-500, and the Much sought after Shelby daul disk clutch is in the $1500 Ball Park.

My clutch went approx. 4 months ago. I went with the SPEC STAGE 2. Very nice...handles over 500 rwhp, but SUCKS in traffic, then again my car is a sunday ride. I got it through Brenspeed, ($687. for part $350. in labor).

Very firm clutch, I get a great workout in traffic. But its all about planning. Another stock clutch would have been fine with my current mods, but iam trying to plan ahead.
I am not a clutch guy as you are about to tell - but can you buy anything for these high performance clutches that make them feel more factory. I like my leg presses in the gym - not in my car
Anyone have an inside track in this forum on who I should buy from/stay away from?

Not that iam aware of, kinda the price you have to pay for the upgrade. I do miss the easy feel of my stocker though. Some of the guys on the forum are still using the stock clutch (w/no problems) and have a whole lot more mods than I. After losing mine in 4 months I had a bad taste in my mouth about the stocker. And I didnt learn how to drive a clutch on this car, I believe it was in 1989, on a nissan 280 zx. lol
I have the SPEC 3+ which is VERY sturdy... I have gotten used to the leg force needed... no major problem in traffic... it is quite a bit rougher than my friends 2+ but again no biggie...
We at Mcleod have a new offering for the S197's as well. I am running the street twin in my car which is designed to hold up to 1200 hp on the street with 60 lbs of pedal pressure required. I can honestly say the pedal feel is not much different than the stocker!. It will definately hold up to the task.
