Default Has anyone upgraded from the shaker 500 to the 1000?

I have a line on the subs for a pretty decent price. I am yet to find a deginitive answer on what all is involved in doing the swap. Some say the head units are the same, others say that the 1000 has the ability to shut off the subs. Also, what wiring tasks are involved. I am not afraid of creating my own harness if need, done it before along with a complete re-wire.

Anyone?

Personally, I would look for an aftermarket one. Although, there are not many double DIN stereos out there that don't include the DVD/Navigation screens.

this is the route im am going. i agree with going after market one thing because you know you are getting a better quality speaker. ford has always been known for crappy stereo systems.

now that i remember right cerino the 500 radio does not have output pins on the connector behind the radio for subwoofers and the two amps that go with the 1000. you need the 1000 radio

The 100 uses 3 amps, and it does have the option to turn off the subs.

I do believe you are going to need a 1000 head unit to do the swap.

yes..do not waste your time or $$...ford stereos are horrendous...put in a decent jl,alpine or pioneer midline price speaker....my shaker 1000 sounds like what it is,a cheap speaker resonating inside a big cheap plastic box.
