Question 2005 Mustang GT Just Installed C&L No Tune CAI / A Few Questions Too!

I got my C&L CAI with the new no-tune insert installed after getting back from a dyno test yesterday.

I’m enclosing some pics so you guys can take a look and see if everything looks good to go - with my clamps, as well as the inlet tube and filter position.

I also installed the MAF support.

Minor gripes/concerns?

I don’t like the way the C&L supplied replacement screw for the MAF support is not the same as the OEM valve cover screw.

Is there anything to be concerned about there? I mean the factory valve cover bolt has that plastic grommet/gasket thing (included pic) to close the gap between the valve cover and the top of the head, while the C&L supplied bolt just leaves the gap open.

The no-tune insert can be seen on the right in the photo of the CAI kit.

The cutout on the no-tune insert for the MAF sensor to slip through was not
perfect and it required some pressure to get the MAF sensor through it.

The cut itself wasn't really a precision say "robot cut" .

It actually looked kind of crude.

Mine is a manufacturing sample I believe. C&L had not gotten their initial shipment of finished no tune inserts at the time I ordered mine.

The C&L no tune insert doesn't require me to load a tune right now.

I don't get the max ouput from the CAI ,but for now, for me at least, this is the road I want to take.

Please post your comments and suggestions.

I didn't swap out the valve cover bolt. I extended the end of the slot right to the end of the bracket so it's an open ended U and slid it under the original bolt.

The no tune option was not available when I was N/A but I really liked the C&L.

If you purchase a tuner in the future you will really be impressed with the improved throttle response and power.

Got a pic of that workaround?

What about any problems though if I leave it attached with their bolt?

Thanks

Here you go.
If you want to remove the C&L to go to the dealer you just disconnect the maf, PCV hose, loosen the valve cover bolt slip the bracket out, loosen the clamp at the throttle body, and remove the fender bolt that holds the heat shield and pull the whole thing out as one piece.

Thanks for the pic.

Did you use a hack saw?

Thmp_rrr, what about my clamps do those look squared away or do they need any adjusting?

Thump_rr ,

I used your workaround.

Thanks..

Now why didn't I think of that ?

Got everything hooked back up except the mass air cable,

cranked it and got the Engine Failsafemode message and the check engine light.

Went back under the hood and discovered the loose cable.

I hooked it up and still had the check engine light.

Hooked up my SCT Xcal2 and checked the DTC code which was P00013,

something about air inlet temp too high.

Is it oK to clear the code with the SCT ?

Man, I hate that I goofed.

But this is something even a real mechanic could overlook, right ?

Thanks for the help

Clear the code and see if it returns... Am I confused or are you not running a tune with the C&L?

I cleared the code and then took it for a ride.

The code was P10013 I believe.

Man there is definitely a SOTP increase, even in 4th around 4 grand if you nail it there is a noticeable increase in pull.

Check engine light did not come back either.

More later

Thanks
