Well, I have the good fortune of owning a garage with a lift so I do most of the oil changes on all of my vehicles ( I have 10 or 11 I think). I use 10W-30 bulk oil with an SJ classification on all of the older vehicles and 5w-20 in the newer OHC vehicles. Changing it myself also gives me a chance to check the vehicle over for problems that are in their infancy. I use a checklist.
The only time I don't change the oil is when the vehicle is due for it and it's in the REAL mechanics shop for major work.
Just got first free oil change at 3000 miles at dealer. Also like records in comp. for warranty. If change yourself, keep all recs.Dealer says use 5w20 syn blend. He said don't need hi priced fully syn.

I no longer have a stock motor, so Ford's recommendation is meaningless to me. My engine builder recommended a heavier oil for my engine. As of this weekend, I have switched to Lucas Oil synthetic. And the beauty of it... it's all free. Lucas Oil is a sponsor of the Stangpede Race Team, so anyone on the team basically can get all the Lucas Oil products we need or want... and not just oil. I have enough oil in my garage now to last a long, long time.
Many, many thanks to Lucas Oil for supporting our Race Team!
p.s. If you're in the San Diego or SoCal area, and want to join the Stangpede Race Team, drop me a PM. There's more than free Lucas Oil products for you. We have a more than a dozen other sponsors, too (and more on the way).

What weight oil are you using now? Switching to something other than 5W20 would seem to make sense seeing that Ford specs 5W50 for the GT500 and GT.

I'm running 20W-50 in my engine.

I was looking at Mobil 1 specs for all oils and noticed that they only list meeting Ford spec WSS-M2C929-A which is 5W-30 for the 4.0L and they say nothing about meeting WSS-M2C930-A which Ford lists as the spec for 4.6L and is required for warranty. I will stick with the Motorcraft oil for my car.
Use whatever Ford tells you to use. You never go wrong that way.
Well... "Ford" didn't build my engine.

Any top shelf synthetic is good. I like Mobil 1 but that’s me. There are a lot of goofy myths about synthetic oil created by shade tree mechanics that don’t re-educate them selves.
coming up on the first oil change also. my son work's for a dealer and can get me amsoil at cost plus no labor cost. ive run amsoil for year's in all my car's and truck's with no problem. the other vehicle's didn't seem to be as sensative as the new 3v mustang's. i can get it done for 30.00.
ive seen a few post's on this about a full synthetic causing timing issue's. i'm not realy going to due a lot of performance stuff like a turbo or supercharger. just want to keep good maintenance on the car. like i said my son get's it at cost. ive never had any problem's before using the amsoil. is it not recommended in the new mustang's.
