I had to apply a pretty good amount of force to pull the bolts, and I don't know if I would have been comfortable with just jackstands.

Also, as was previously stated, chock the wheels that aren't on ramps. After you pull up onto the ramp, drop the car into neutral and take your foot off the brake to make sure it doesn't roll. Then set the e-brake and put it in gear.
Most ramps will clear the front. I can get up mine even with the chin spoiler. It's close but not too bad.

I had to get some ramps for putting on a panhard bar, and ended up getting a $40 set from Walmart, similar to these:

http://www.piloracing.com/proddetail.php?prod=11905

They're rated up to 12,000 pounds, and they're pretty wide. My car's lowered 1" and I had no problems scraping while driving it up onto them.

They made me feel a lot safer when I was under there!
Those are the same ones I got. Work great!

I have the same ramps from Advance Auto Parts. you can get them at just about any auto supply store.
I am a skinny guy, and I can't fit under a stock GT, let alone do any work under there. When I installed my Hurst, I jacked one side up and put stands underneath.

your Hurst will feel better with some use. so, what ever beef you might have with it now, wait a month or two. I love the way mine feels more now than when I first installed it.

The shifter lever (chrome stick) can work loose if you don't put some Locktite on the bolts. I didn't but I did have it come loose a couple times, retightened it pretty tight each time and it sems to be fine now.

And you might try a Hurst T-handle. Perfect. Except in winter. I switch out my T for a white or black ball. The aluminum T gets frostbite cold in the winter.

I have ramps, but I still prefer the jack stands. I just think they're safer. It's good to know that the car can still fit the ramps with the chin spoiler, though. I didn't think it would.

I tried the Rhino Ramps (Auto Zone) and returned them the next day. They don't raise the car high enough to comfortably work underneath. I have since bought an aluminum floor jack from Costco for $90 which raises the car twice as high (18 inches) with 5 pumps and easily slides under a lowered chassis.

For the front end, I jack the car up and set the ramps under the tires, then lower the car down onto the ramp. That way I don't have a problem with the spoiler hitting the ramp, and the tires are square on the ramp. If the wheels need to come off, I use jack stands.

OK, I promised some pics, I'm not a very good photographer, but here are a couple...

I absolutely LOVE the classic look of this shifter.

Looks great... I added the T handle to mine but I think I'll switch back to the white ball in winter. The T is way too cold!

I actually considered the T handle, I used to have a 69 Ranger XLT with a T handeled Hurst shifter, very first truck I ever owned. I also had a 68 Olds Cutlass S 'vert with a factory Hurst shifter, chrome stick, white ball...tough choice actually...

Thats what flt. gloves are good for in the winter, Tee handles.

Does anyone know where I can get just the Hurst shifter stick?

I know it's only been a couple of days since the install, but I gotta say, I LOVE this shifter, it makes driving the car more fun, getting used to the shorter throws now...I love it.

I would definitely recommend this upgrade to anyone who is considering it.

I put one on mine last Sunday, what a PITA. The last bolt, the 13mm one near the front of the stock sticker... I was under my car for a half hour before I realized I was turning it the wrong way

What the others said about the chrome stalk is absolutely true. I had to go out and buy loc-tight, the blue bottle for metal. Thing came loose twice in one day. I was tightening it at red lights

I had a 69 F100 with Hurst Indy 3spd floor shifter and an 8 ball on top, with a big block out front. The Hurst in my Stang reminds me of the way it felt. Plastic knob with skinny shaft under it. I've had it on about a month, and love it. I have managed to grind up second gear a couple times when I didn't slam it back hard enough to get it into gear on a fast shift. Several people have commented that it's their favorite thing I've done to the appearance of the car.
