Just installed the Hurst short throw shifter in my 2005 GT
Any of you out there considering the Hurst Short throw shifter, I just bought one and installed it tonight.
I really like the classic look and feel of the shifter and the short ride back from my buddy's garage to my house, was at least enough that I could tell a huge difference in the shifting; shorter throws and crisper shifts for sure. However, I will admit that it will take some time getting used to it, as I have been driving with the stock shifter for two years.
This is a very simple install, my friend and I installed it in just under an hour with no hitches. Anyone who is the least bit mechanically inclinded could handle this installation. The directions that come with the shifter are very well laid out step by step and easy to understand. A 13mm, 10mm wrench, 10mm deep socket with an extention and a 7/32" allen wrench are the only toold you will need. The instructions recomment lock tight on the 13mm nut.
You will need some help to manuver the shifter arm assembly through the tight hole in the floor pan, one person in the car, one underneath. However the trick is removing the urethane bushing on the rear of the assembly, it will slide right in.
I tried taking some pictures, but all I had was my camera phone, and with the darkness, they didn't come out well, I will take better pics tomorrow and post them.
Congrats on the install. As you have found out it makes a big difference. Any more mods in the future?
Big Difference, the first time I shifted from 1st to 2nd, I wasn't convinced it was actually in 2nd gear...
Definetely more mods to come, but when you are on a budget, it's hard to decide how to spend your money. Hopefully, I'll have some pics posted by tonight.

Your not the only one on a budget. Just make sure you do your homework and plan ahead on what you want, ask questions and make go for it.

Hope this info helps.
I'm eyeing the Hurst shifter for my first mod, since it's affordable and I can install myself. Just one question though: did you jack up the car to get underneath? I could slide under my 93 GT enough to change the oil, but I can't get under the 07 GT without parking it over the dip at the end of the driveway. I guess when I'm under it I'm the dip.

They're rated up to 12,000 pounds, and they're pretty wide. My car's lowered 1" and I had no problems scraping while driving it up onto them.
They made me feel a lot safer when I was under there!

I have the Eibach springs, so I definitely could not fit under the car without jacking it up. I used a floor jack and two jack stands under the crossmember. CHOCK THE REAR WHEELS!!!
I have some heavy duty jack stands, each are rated at 5000lbs. So, if you don't use ramps, make sure your stands are tough enough, not only to stand the weight of the car, but someone sitting in it trying to manuver the shifter through the floorpan hole.
That's exactly what I did. I haven't tried pulling forwards onto them yet, so I'm not sure if they'd clear that way, but I wouldn't anticipate any problems.
I had to apply a pretty good amount of force to pull the bolts, and I don't know if I would have been comfortable with just jackstands.
Also, as was previously stated, chock the wheels that aren't on ramps. After you pull up onto the ramp, drop the car into neutral and take your foot off the brake to make sure it doesn't roll. Then set the e-brake and put it in gear.
