Default Is the clutch pack fix really necessary?

Is the clutch pack moan/rubbing really hurting anything in the rearend? There are alot of people with this promblem that had the TSB done on their mustang and the moan came back soon later! I was just wondering if you dont get the TSB done on your mustang will it hurt the rearend any in the long run. Is the clutch pack issue more of a noise/irritating issue than a real promblem with the rearend?

No... They just install a thinner clutch material. The noise isn't hurting anything. You can quiet the clutch packs by adding an additional 4 oz of friction modifier. Or... You can just live with the noise.

OK Thanks, I fell better now that it is nothing serious, just really a noise issue. Might try the modifier later on down the road.

Yeah mine makes a little noise while turning slowly, really not noticeable unless you listen for it.

There are plenty who have this problem (myself included). I just turn up the radio.

After driving the car for 20,000-30,000 miles wont the friction material on the clutchpacks eventually wear down and make the moan/rubbing stop?

Actually it might eventually wear down to the point that the limited slip would no longer function as designed.

This is only what I would do. I would have the TSB done. If the disks are to thick that puts extra strain on the tabs on the staters. I had one of those tabs brake off on my Bronco and yes it did get between the ring and pinion and you know what that does. So thats just me. Same 8.8 rear.

It would be at my own cost since I've modified the rear end. I just added the additional friction modifier and that has really reduced the chatter.

Is it a chatter or just a moan? I recently noticed a moan coming from my car at a slow speed turn while turning into parking spaces. I have the steering wheel turned all the way so I'm not sure if it's the power steering pump or the rear end since the noise is so low. I just recently installed UDPs so I thought it could be the PS pump. It's a real low moan at slow speed with the steering wheel turned all the way or almost all the way.

I just switched to a good synthetic oil and it stopped making noise.
