I live in Tennessee, and have to get emissions testing. I want to put a complete exhaust on my car. I'm not sure if I can use the JBA long tubes, with the JBA X pipe with cats, of if I have to go with the shortys. I just want to be able to pass emissions testing.
This will be my first mod to my mustang, but the first of many more to come, as I save the money for them.

First off, welcome to the forums... Not sure about your state but if you have a visual inspection you may not pass if the cats are not in the OEM position.

I am in Tennessee, and there is not a visual inspection other than just a verification that the check engine light isn't on. They just sniff the exhaust.

If that's the case, a set of highflow cats probably won't be an issue. It would be less of a concern if your state did a true OBDII test. If they actually sample the exhaust, there's a chance it could still fail.

I have read a little about what tests are done. All that is done is a OBDII test, and a gas cap leak test. What does that open up for me.

here in tx they just plug it up and do the emission testing there. A friend of mine has a 96 stang with no cats and still passed emissions. I credit that cause he prolly took good care to the enginie ^_^
