Default S197 Dealer installed Roush CAI thoughts

OK, I had it in for its first oil change today. I asked about the Roush CAI which they install. It doesn't affect the warranty. But when I asked if they had to put in a different tune they said no. Said you would if you were running premium gas but wouldn't need it with regular. Said they usually do it with Ford racing mufflers as well. What are your thoughts on this?

thats strange as I thought most all CAI required a tune. 87 0r 93 fuels wont matter.

Agree with Mick... It would need a tune. Octane makes no difference.

Does the customer buy the tuner too or just get the tune?

im not so sure but i think you have to buy the tuner seperate....good thing is that you get no fuss with the warranty... from what i have seen they work pretty good...never installed one myself....only seen my buddies do it...for sure you do have to get the tuner

The Roush unit is similar to the K&N. No tune needed apparently (I confirmed this with K&N, I have nothing back from Roush yet) My dealer said the same thing, no tune needed.

I installed a K&N on my V6 along with magnaflow axle backs. It sounded cooler and wound up quicker. I installed a C&L later with a tune and it is not contest. A good tune with a good CAI is such an improvement you cannot imagine.

If you'r perfer to keep it close to stock then the Roush is a good choice along with some different exhaust. It will sound meaner and you will feel a difference (I certainly did on my V6).

I could be wrong but I think the Roush is actually an AIRAID with their name on it. I just looked as the Roush site and then AIRAID's. It should have the removable tube inside so you can use it with or without a tune. So if you don't use a tune I can't see why it would affect the warranty.

Here's some pictures of each. I looked at the airaid but decided to go with the C&L racer. I like the way they are plastic to stay cool, and match the rest of the engine if it's stock.

Well those two pieces are clearly the same... Regardless of what any CAI manufacturer says, they all change the A/F ratio and every car would benefit from a tune whether 'needed' or not.
