Default UCA and LCA Bolt Torque Process

I know there are a couple of threads going on this right now, but I have not been able to find and aswer to how the process of torquing these bolts is supoosed to be done.

I have had my UCA arm off a bunch of times and my LCA's off a few. I am reading that they bolts should only be used once (I have used mine a lot more than that) and there is a torque process for them (which I have never done).

Can someone with a manual or the lowdown on how this process is supoosed to be done fill me in?

I am going to get a whole new set of bolts from my dealer on Monday and replace EVERYTHING! under there. I have been chasing clunks for weeks now and I am beggining to understand why.....I'm doing it wrong

Maybe the torque process should go up as a "sticky" thread considering that everyone that buys UCA's or LCA's is going to need to know it. I just reviewed the instructions that came with mine and there is no mention of any kind of process.

So, to whomever posts up the "right way" of doing this and all the ins and outs of what to be looking for (bolt stretch?, etc) thanks for your help. I hope once and for all I can get rid of all that clunking for good. I don't mind some road noise, but one, two or all of my CA's sound like they are "loose" and that is driving me nuts, not to mention scary.

thanks a lot!

The CHE control arms basically tell you to lube up the bushings, slide the arms in, put the bolts in, but don't tighten them until you get both ends of the arm in. Then tighten up the bolts to 129 ft-lbs. I'm having the same problems. I didn't use any loc-tite, but I don't think that helps anyway. Who knows? No two cars seem to be the same, so it makes this harder to pinpoint.

Yeah, I hear ya. I put the LCA's in last fall and didn't do anything special and they sounded OEM. I put the UCA in this spring because my pinion angle was wrong and at 140mph I had a good size driveline vibration.

Ever since the UCA went in it sounds like somone is back there beating the hell out of my car I took it out, welded up some stronger "holes" on the bracket (where the UCA bolts to the Y shaped bracket) that goes to the body, they were already going oval with 550 miles on it! I put everything back together, greased the hell out of it, etc, etc. I evenb checked to see if I had any slop anywhere. And now it sounds like my LCA's are making noise. Thats why I'm going back to scratch. Everything is coming out, I am using new bolts, etc. I may even do soma machining and make some better sleeves to isolate the mount points. Who knows? Maybe I will just turn the stereo up.

On a good note one of my exhaust rattles stopped making noise yesterday!

Oh, and I just re-read my Metco instructions. They said make them tight......and thats it. Wow, thanks for the help Metco.
